2 Tybura Claims Heavyweight Title, Puetz Defends 205-Pound Belt at M-1 Challenge 50

If you enjoy events in exotic mountain valleys on the decks of warships, with fireworks for intermissions, and undercards featuring renaissance sword fights, M-1 Global is for you. In addition to the bizarre, M-1 Challenge 50 “Battle of Neva” offered heavyweight and light heavyweight championship fights in St. Petersburg, Russia, on Friday. Poland’s Marcin Tybura , who entered the ring to MMA walkout staple “Lose Yourself” by Eminem, had hopes of taking the heavyweight title away from fellow Pole Damian Grabowski . It wasn’t much of a fight. After a quick takedown, Tybura locked in a deep north-south choke to become the new heavyweight champion. A bout that was scheduled to go five rounds only needed 38 seconds. Tybura remains undefeated at 11-0, while the “Polish Pitbull” drops to 19-2. Stephan Puetz successfully defended his M-1 Challenge light heavyweight strap against Luis Fernando Mirando in the co-main event. This one featured plenty of jostling for position between the 205-pounders in the opening frame, which required the referee to restart the action on multiple occasions.

Overcoming addiction was harder battle than anything Lauren Murphy will face in the UFC

Murphy will meet Sara McMann in her UFC debut Saturday on the UFC Fight Night prelims on FOX Sports 2 (8 p.m. ET) from Bangor, Maine. For most, the prospect of taking on McMann, the former women's bantamweight No. 1 contender and Olympic wrestling silver medalist would be dreadful. Not for Murphy. She can't wait.

Next up for the largest MMA promotion in Asia is August’s One FC 19 “Reign of Champions” pay-per-view, which features a welterweight title fight pitting Nobutatsu Suzuki against Ben Askren and a lightweight championship bout between Shinya Aoki and Kamal Shalourus.

“He’s Nick Diaz,” White told MMAjunkie after Friday’s weigh-ins for UFC Fight Night 47 in Bangor, Maine. “There’s a lot of things Nick says that make him Nick. It is what it is. Glover Teixeira minimizes Jon Jones's illegal moves: 'I'm an old school guy'

"It's hard to talk about this because he became the champion thanks to his merits. I'm an old school guy. I grew up watching "Vale Tudo" and Marco Ruas . I fight imagining the bouts from a past generation, when everything was legal. I don't care much about these allegations. If it was a brawl, everything would be legal. Some of what he does bothers. He eye poked me three time when we fought. Nobody trains 'eye poke defense'. I don't know if he does on purpose, all I know is that he's a great fighter."

Putting 'Barbarian' back in play: Tim Boetsch talks return to form

“My skill set was very limited,” he said. “I was basically just fighting and staying alive in my mind. I’ve reconnected with that thought process, but now I have the additional experience of just being a veteran UFC fighter, so I really know what to expect when I get in the octagon. If I combine that with that raw fighter mindset, I think it’s going to be really tough to stop.”
