Hi, my name is Randy and I am a 29 year old high school teacher and wrestling coach from Southern California. Unfortunately, I was recently diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiform (GBM) Grade 4. Around mid April, Southern California went through a series of heat waves. During that period, I began to experience headaches on a daily basis. I very rarely have headaches (1 or 2) a year, so I assumed they were just from my allergies. As the days went on, my headaches were getting worse and no over the counter medicine was relieving the pain. One day in the middle of May, I was driving on the freeway and had difficulties staying in my lane and my headaches were becoming unbearable, so I checked into urgent care. The physicians ordered a CTSCAN and found a mass tumor in my right parietal lobe of my brain. They then rushed me to another facility for Neurosurgery and operated on me the following day and my surgeon removed 90-95% of the Tumor. I felt like the worst was behind me and I was in the clear. A few days later my pathology test came back with the unfortunate news that I have GBM Grade 4, a form of cancer that is considered in the medical world to be incurable.

Joe Rogan and Friends

“One of the most complex and exciting stand-ups working in America today.  Like an idealistic hippy stuck inside the body of a testosterone-pumped US marine.  He’s been likened to late great US comedians such as Bill Hicks and Sam Kinison, but although he exhibits a similar brand of furious indignation, his observations and revelations are entirely his own.  His angry, insightful act is an absorbing battle between his raw libertarian instincts and his refined liberal sensibilities.”   --William Cook, The Guardian   A standup comedian for more than 20 years, Joe Rogan sells out theaters internationally with his inquisitive and intense comedic style.  His third hour comedy special “Joe Rogan: Live from the Tabernacle” was released in December 2012 via his website.  Rogan previously starred in two hour long specials, “Talking Monkeys in Space” (2009) now available on CD & DVD and “Joe Rogan Live” (2007) now available on DVD, and released the CD’s “Shiny Happy Jihad” (2007) and “I’m Gonna Be Dead Someday” (2000).

Jack Slack: The Striking of Bader versus St. Preux | FIGHTLAND

In the main event, Ryan Bader took a predictable five round decision over Ovince St. Preux. Frankly, anyone who was giving St. Preux a chance was doing so solely based on Bader's suspect chin and porous boxing defense. St. Preux had shown to be deficient in the wrestling department against Gegard Mousasi,  and though he's surely worked on it and improved in the last three years, he just wasn't able to measure up with the wrestling savant that is Ryan Bader.

Diego Sanchez on Dan Hardy - GETREALMMA.COM

“You know like I said, I’m just doing it and doing it the best I can. I love to fight and I will continue to fight until it’s my time to give it up. So you know, I’m not feeling like I’m getting dominated, I’ve never been knocked out or submitted, and you know when and if I get my ass kicked like that, then you know it will be time to hang it up. But you know, I’m still going strong and I feel like I’m still getting better, I have a great camp, I’m 32 years old, and I feel like I have more to show.”

What would happen if the UFC became a WADA Code signatory?

Part of what the WADA Code demands is not merely effective testing protocols and procedures, but a larger intellectual or idea effort to buttress the practice themselves. That's as much a reminder to the signatories as it is the larger communities of the sports themselves. After all, the questions of 'Why are we testing?' or 'Why are we testing in this particular way?' would naturally be asked. The WADA Code, for better or worse, provides the reasoning behind anti-doping efforts as much specific guidelines on how to actually combat their use.

Boxing News: Kell Brook Scores Upset, Topples Shawn Porter Via Majority Decision

Kell Brook became the IBF welterweight champion. | Photo: Esther Lin/Showtime Leading up to his Showtime Boxing headlining bout with England’s Kell Brook, there was a tremendous amount of hype surrounding reigning IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter. Aside from having some excellent performances during his ascent through the ranks, it wasn’t until he destroyed former multiple-time champ Paulie Malignaggi that Porter became one of boxing’s hottest commodities. Most of that changed tonight inside the Stub Hub Center in Carson, Calif., as Brook, a somewhat sizeable underdog coming in, negated the aggressive style of Porter and won a majority decision. Brook used a stiff left jab and timely counter punching throughout the contest, but what did Porter in the most was how often the Brit tied up the defending champ. Porter tried to bully his way inside with furious punches, but Brook thwarted the vast majority of the attacks and maintained control when he had to. When Brook was able to create enough space to punch, he tagged the American with sizzling straight rights and powerful counter left hooks.

13 Trading Shots: Is Ryan Bader a gatekeeper, and is that really such a bad thing?

Instead of gatekeeper, maybe I can get the point across with another term. Let’s say you and I are back in high school. You’re probably walking around in your cool letterman jacket talking about keggers, bench pressing, or whatever else you jocks discussed. On the other side of the cafeteria is teenage Danny Boy. You find out that I’m in Model United Nations and Philosophy Club, and there’s no way cool Ben Fowlkes is going to let that go. I’m sure you’d have a few choice insults for me, but I’d imagine chief among them would be “nerd.” Now, I have no problem with being called a nerd, and may even take it as a point of pride. That still doesn’t change the fact that you consciously used the term as an insult. Your intentions, in addition to my reaction, give the word its power and meaning.

Dana White on Danier Cormier-Jon Jones brawl: 'Our bad'

White was vacationing in Bora Bora when the brawl occurred at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, thus leaving the Senior Director of Public Relations, Dave Sholler, as the mediator between the fighters. Since that time the brawl has blown the fight itself up to larger levels than before, it has raised a lot of discussion in the aftermath as to whether or not something like that is good for the sport. It's a slippery slope, and White was asked if he worried some fighters might see it as an example to follow going forward in helping sell a fight.

17 Formiga, McMann Pick Up Key Wins in Bangor

BANGOR, MAINE, August 16 – With Ian McCall and John Lineker both scoring big wins in recent bouts, Saturday’s UFC Fight Night prelim bout between top ten flyweight contenders Jussier Formiga and Zach Makovsky was a pivotal one. When it was over, the number six-ranked Formiga pulled out the unanimous decision win at the Cross Insurance Center, putting his name in the title picture at 125 pounds. “I’m very happy with my performance tonight," Formiga said. "I needed this win badly against a top ten guy like Makovsky who’s very tough. I managed to get out of this fight with no injuries so I want to stay active and fight again as quickly as possible. I’m ready for all the challenges the UFC has for me and I’m ready to get that belt.”   Scores were 29-28 for Formiga, now 17-3; the number nine-ranked Makovsky falls to 18-5. After some stand-up action to get the bout started, Formiga found his opening to get the fight to the mat, and with remarkable flexibility he twisted and turned and got his opponent down. Makovsky was solid defensively though, and he got himself free and into the top position, where he stayed briefly until the two stood.

UFC Fight Night Bader vs. St. Preux results: Fights to make for main card fighters

Prior obligations prevented me from watching UFC Fight Night: Bader vs. St. Preux live, but I didn't lose any sleep over it because I thought that this card had high potential to be a stinker. Turns out that was an incorrect prediction, as all of the main card bouts ended in a finish bar the main event, which was probably always bound to go the distance if it wasn't finished in the first round. That's a positive for me, as it  was a hell of a lot quicker to catch up on what I'd missed instead of sitting through tedious decision after tedious decision.

Making the Grade: Passes/Fails from UFC Fight Night: Bader vs. Saint Preux

Suddenly, Sunday morning we're talking about Boetsch's incredible comeback KO rather than him being cut from the UFC. Oh, MMA. This is why we love you. Making it even cooler is that Boetsch was the only fighter on the card who was actually born in Maine. "The Barbarian" grew up about an hour south of Bangor in Lincolnville. He had family and friends in attendance and when he won, the Cross Insurance Center got about as loud as the Cross Insurance Center is going to get. It wasn't quite Conor McGregor in Dublin, but it was a pretty darn special moment for Boetsch.

What went down : Wow. What a start to this one. They brawl right from the start and Lesnar hits Cena with the F5 right off the bat but Cena kicks out at the last moment! Lesnar devastating Cena to start the match. Lesnar is rag dolling Cena, just launching him across the ring repeatedly with German suplexes. He goes for about the 10th but Cena elbows out, fires up and hits the Attitude Adjustment, but Lesnar kicks out at two. Lesnar does an Undertaker sit up, laughs, gets up and tells Cena to bring it. Cena charges but Lesnar hits a double leg and goes to town with the ground-and-pound. Lesnar grabs Cena and hits four straight Germans, launching Cena on the fourth. And three more. Holy cow.

Joe Silva’s Shoes: What's next for UFC Fight Night 47’s winners?

Now that Pearson is standing on steady ground, he can move forward to bigger and better things. A fight against Joe Lauzon (23-9 MMA, 10-6 UFC) or Michael Chiesa (11-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC), who are scheduled to fact off at UFC Fight Night 50 next month in Connecticut, would be a suitable next step for “The Real Deal.”

Porter vs Brook results and analysis: Sunday report card

SHAWN PORTER The first loss of Porter's career could be a career defining one. Porter committed one of boxing's unpardonable sins here - he failed to adjust. He had his gameplan in place - to get inside and rough Brook up. Trouble was, Brook had him well scouted and kept landing clean shots on the entry. Rather then adjust to a plan B, Porter seemed to freeze up, either going again and again to what was not working well enough, or going through periods of surprising inactivity. This has the danger of being one of those fights that sets the blueprint for future Porter opponents to follow. Time will tell, but this is clearly a massive stumbling block for the previously red hot Porter. Grade: C-

Hunt almost walked out on the UFC: 'I nearly made the biggest mistake of my life'

Mark Hunt caused a buzz a few weeks ago, when he tweeted, "Not my choice guys but going from being exited at the prospects of the future of fighting to being unemployed in a day lol this sucks." Some read the message as one of Hunt's many jokes to stir up his fans and the media, others wondered if he'd been cut, and there was even some talk that he might have suddenly decided to pull the plug on his long combat sports career. Hunt later explained the tweets away as the result of a low-carb diet, but it looks like potential retirement was a lot closer to the truth. He revealed the source of his 'unemployment' tweet to  the Sunday Star in New Zealand .

Dana White uncertain about Gray Maynard’s future but does not want to ‘chase him out of the game’

"Obviously he came here to fight, and he's been cleared medically to fight, I think the kid is healthy," White said at the post-fight press conference. "But, you know, it's probably a discussion we might have. I'm not looking to chase Gray out of the game or anything like that. I'll talk to him though.

Gray Maynard the latest to find out where the fight path ultimately leads

BANGOR, Maine – Dana White loved the idea of having an event in Maine so much that he convinced all the hands controlling the UFC’s purse strings to humor him and put on Saturday night’s show. Lorenzo Fertitta , who always was a soft touch, consented because Maine has always been a sort of childhood fantasyland for White, who to this day owns a property here where he shoots off guns and fireworks and buys smart cars while blotto. And as far as splurge cards go, UFC Fight Night 47 was pretty freaking decent in terms of action, as four of the six main card fights ended in a knockout or TKO, including an improbable come-from-behind bulb-buster from Maine native Tim Boetsch . Somehow, while staring through the red film of his own blood, Boetsch slammed home a right hand against Brad Tavares and changed the course of fate, not unlike he did against Yushin Okami at UFC 144 . The people in Bangor let up the loudest roar of the night as Tavares fell. One that went more silently was Gray Maynard , who entered the cage on the kind of eggshells that you could only hope going in were imaginary.

The Ultimate Fighter 20 Finale set for Dec. 12 at Las Vegas' Hard Rock Hotel & Casino

UFC officials recently applied with the Nevada State Athletic Commission to host “a professional mixed martial arts event at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino to be broadcast on FOX Sports (1).” MMAjunkie subsequently confirmed the date has been reserved for the traditional live finale of the latest season of “TUF,” which wrapped filming this past week and debuts on FOX Sports 1 on Sept. 10.

Slowly but surely, Ryan Bader breaks another one

You have to give Bader his due. As he said before this fight, he’s been in against the cream of the light heavyweight crop. He didn’t beat many of them, sure, but he’s been there. He’s climbed high enough on the mountain to know how far he is from the top. Saint Preux? He was still wondering. So were we, in some ways. Then Bader put him through a meatgrinder that provided some stark, ugly answers, and the result was his first UFC loss in his first real UFC test.

UFC Fight Night: Bader vs. Saint Preux Results - Sunday Perspective

The UFC 180 and 181 cards are likely to draw attention, but with the current state of UFC cards it is hard to imagine them in anyway competing for average North American fans attention being behind pay walls while a wildly popular and more easily accessible sport starts a new playoff format. The UFC's global push as yet to yield real fruit; the numbers in Brazil have been solid but declining from 2011 explosion of interest. Continued efforts to reinvigorate Japan and crack both China and Europe have had success in spots, but little consistency. And domestically it has been a rough year as injury and lackluster match making has lead to some historic lows when it comes to PPV buys in some cases, but the UFC has also had its strong showings as well.
