UFC 177 Update: Odoms-Magomedov Scratched, Medeiros-Edwards Moved to Main Card

Richard Odoms has pulled out of UFC 177. | Photo: Andy Hemingway/ A heavyweight bout between Richard Odoms and Ruslan Magomedov set for the main card of UFC 177 is no longer. Ultimate Fighting Championship officials Monday announced that Odoms “has been forced to withdraw” from the bout, though the reason for his withdrawal was not specified. As a result, Magomedov has been removed from the card altogether and will be matched against another opponent at an upcoming card to be determined. UFC 177 takes place Aug. 30 at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Calif., headlined by a bantamweight title rematch between T.J. Dillashaw and Renan Barao . A lightweight tilt between Yancy Medeiros and Justin Edwards will replace the Odoms-Magomedov bout on the pay-per-view main card. The event was scheduled to feature Demetrious Johnson defending his flyweight title against Chris Cariaso in the co-main event, but that fight was moved to the main event of UFC 178 .

Caramel Coloring in Soda | Artificial Food Coloring | 4-MeI - Consumer Reports

Based on our results, Consumers Union, the policy and action arm of Consumer Reports, is taking several actions. First, we are alerting the California Attorney General’s office of our test findings regarding Pepsi One and Malta Goya. We are also petitioning the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to set a federal standard for 4-MeI and in the meantime to require manufacturers to list the type of caramel color they use on their products’ ingredient lists. That’s important because there are four types of caramel coloring. Only the two made with ammonia compounds can contain 4-MeI. However, manufacturers can use the general term “artificial color” interchangeably with “caramel color.” “Europe has labeling requirements and consumers in the United States should have the right to make an informed choice about what they are drinking and eating,” says Dr. Rangan.

Hello Pauline Nordin & Fighter Diet, I was into sport all my life. I was a tri-athlete for more than 15 years. I still like to go for a run or a long bike ride. It was really important to me to try not to lose muscle during these long hours of cardio . I tried to eat more carbs but it always ended up in fat . I met Pauline and she told me about fighter diet. I tried it and I have to tell I could not find anything like it. It keeps me in shape,no fat at all and also I do not loose the muscle mass I built during years. I have also competed and done it for fitness competition prep. I never feel hungry since the veggies fill me up. The only thing I miss is the desert but this diet let U eat once a week desert and it satisfies me. I love fighter diet! It is simple to follow and combined

Scott Coker on Gina Carano: 'We've had one quick conversation with her'

"We've had one quick conversation with [manager] Scott [Karp], and that was it," he said. "And it was just one quick conversation and there was nothing really made of it. I think that Gina wants to fight at 135. And as far as Cyborg, we haven't talked to her because she's under contract fighting in Invicta, but if she becomes available, then we'll have a conversation with her."

Joe Rogan and Friends

“One of the most complex and exciting stand-ups working in America today.  Like an idealistic hippy stuck inside the body of a testosterone-pumped US marine.  He’s been likened to late great US comedians such as Bill Hicks and Sam Kinison, but although he exhibits a similar brand of furious indignation, his observations and revelations are entirely his own.  His angry, insightful act is an absorbing battle between his raw libertarian instincts and his refined liberal sensibilities.”   --William Cook, The Guardian   A standup comedian for more than 20 years, Joe Rogan sells out theaters internationally with his inquisitive and intense comedic style.  His third hour comedy special “Joe Rogan: Live from the Tabernacle” was released in December 2012 via his website.  Rogan previously starred in two hour long specials, “Talking Monkeys in Space” (2009) now available on CD & DVD and “Joe Rogan Live” (2007) now available on DVD, and released the CD’s “Shiny Happy Jihad” (2007) and “I’m Gonna Be Dead Someday” (2000).

Gustafsson: The Odd Man Out | FIGHTLAND

If he waits out, he’ll get rusty. This is the prime of his career and if he’s not fighting, he’s not making money. At 27, Gustafsson is just reaching the most important years of his fighting life, and to sit out an entire year for a world title shot seems ill advised. As a young fighter, he needs to continue fighting to improve and to support his family and lifestyle.

UFC Fight Night 48 preview: Cung Le taking it one (super) fight at time, starting with Michael Bisping in Macau

That means a Bisping loss is more important than a Le win, at least in terms of how the future of the division unfolds. The brash Brit has always been a tough out, but a crack at the 185-pound crown continues to elude him. I'm not sure Le even cares about the title at this stage of the game, because he's  not even ranked in the top 15 and would have to put together an incredible run to even get into the discussion.

The more notable topics have been transcribed and published here, most notably the current situation with Eddie Alvarez's contract.

MMA Focus MP3s with Duane “Bang” Ludwig

After Duane experienced the benefits of my coaching we decided to work together to create a program that he could share with the fighters he trains. We took his experience in the cage and gym, and my ability to get athletes into states of peak performance, and created a program that anyone could use before training or a fight to improve their mindset. The result of that partnership is these two MP3 audio programs. One is designed to be used pre-training and the other is to be used just before a fight.

In 2008 (or so), Rutten accidentally broke a six-pack of non-alcoholic beer, which somehow blasted a shard of glass through his jeans and into his leg. Technique of the Week: Head Movement

Chris Beal and Joseph Janik display this edition of Sherdog's Technique of the Week.

Welcome to the UFC, Larissa Pacheco

The first woman to wear Jungle Fight gold, Pacheco has been a prospect to watch since 2012, when she stormed out of the gate with a 4-0 undefeated record. Since then she's won another six fights to take her to an unblemished 10-0. The 19-year old apparently trains out of the JB Jiu-Jitsu team, but I can't find any thing tying her to a specific camp. Either way, it appears she's fighting out of a pretty small gym at the moment. It should also be noted, that while WMMA is still in it's infancy in many parts of the world, Pacheco's record is pretty barren for a champ in a major regional organization. Even her two title fights were against opponents with a combined record of 5-2. So, while she's been winning, and winning well (4 TKOs, 6 submissions, all wins by stoppage) she has yet to face any serious competition.

Scott Coker: Mayhem Miller to Bellator is 'worth a conversation'

He briefly announced his retirement from mixed martial arts following his release, and was arrested twice between August 2012 and August 2013, first on suspicion of burglary of a church in California, then on domestic abuse charges. Charges for the former incident were eventually dropped, and Miller has since expressed a desire to return to competition.

UFC heavyweight Mark Hunt explains why he tweeted that he was 'unemployed'

Hunt (9-8-1) is one of the most exciting fighters on the UFC roster. He has won four fight-night bonuses in seven UFC bouts and is coming off a Fight of the Year candidate against Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva last December in Australia. White has called that the best heavyweight bout in UFC history. All told, Hunt has only lost one of his last six fights. He's ranked No. 8 among heavyweight contenders.

Tim Kennedy on PEDs in MMA: 'We’re in the Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire era'

"I get so much crap from everybody. Like, shut up pussy, why don't you just use it yourself and actually have an exciting fight? It's non-stop relentless, especially from Vitor fans or Chael Sonnen fans. Listen, I get it. They're fun to watch. But so was Sammy Sosa and so was Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire. They almost destroyed the sport of baseball. Those three dudes alone almost ruined baseball. That's where we are right now in the sport. We're in the Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire era where it's just rampant, crazy use of PEDs. And Mark [Bocek] that just retired, you know, he's saying up to 90%. I said around 30%. Okay, fine, we'll split it, like split the difference. That's crazy! That is a huge problem. And we're not hitting a ball out of a park. We're hitting each other in the head. This is a little different. So the standards should be different and it's not. It's worse. Something's got to give."

Champ Eddie Alvarez still under contract with Bellator MMA, but 'lawyers are talking'

Bellator MMA lightweight champion  Eddie Alvarez remains under contract with the promotion, but the lawyers for the formerly embattled pair are in talks about the fighter’s future, according to new Bellator President Scott Coker.

Video: What should the UFC do about Gray Maynard's battered brain?

But following Saturday’s TKO loss to Ross Pearson (16-7 MMA, 8-4 UFC) in UFC Fight Night 47’s co-headliner, Maynard (11-4-1 MMA, 9-4-1 UFC) is forcing serious doubts about his brain health, especially in light of Krzysztof Soszynski’s recent comments about his own memory loss . Yet, White said he isn’t “ looking to chase Gray out of the game .”

Shinsho Anzai replaces Sheldon Westcott at Saturday's UFC Fight Night 48

UFC Fight Night 48 takes place at The Venetian Macao’s CotaiArena in Macau. The entire event streams on UFC Fight Pass with a 6:30 a.m. ET (3:30 a.m. PT) start time.

Sidney Crosby reached out to T.J. Grant over concussion recovery

When it comes to missing time due to a concussion, few athletes are better equipped to give advice than Sidney Crosby. The NHL's two time leading scorer and two time MVP (among his many other awards) missed the better part of two seasons on the sidelines, while recovering from concussion related symptoms. He's returned to form lately, but that didn't stop him from reaching out to currently injured UFC title hopeful T.J. Grant , while Grant attempts to come back from his own injuries. Grant spoke about talking to Crosby on  the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani . (Transcript via Sports Net )

Jon Jones Hung Out With Brock Lesnar and Mike Tyson This Weekend, WHAT DID YOU DO??

Cut to last Friday’s edition of Inside MMA , where Soszynski finally, officially announced his retirement from MMA after almost a decade in the game, citing memory loss as the reason he was forced to call it quits. You know, like that time he retired from MMA three years ago but forgot about it. Eesh.

Phil Davis worried about Brazilian judges at UFC 179: ‘It’s not going to be a fair fight’

"I think it's a great match up," Davis told  Sumbission Radio . "He's obviously Brazilian, the fans seem really like me down in Brazil after I'm done fighting. So you know, it should work out well. Another trip down to Brazil, another chance to have an awesome performance down there. The fans down there are absolutely fanatical about MMA so I'm just excited about the match up, the venue, the fight, (being in the) co-main, everything. Should be a great opportunity to put myself back in the title hunt."

Mirsad Bektic out, newcomer Clay Collard meets Max Holloway at UFC Fight Night 49

The American Top Team-trained Bektic was looking to stay unbeaten. He actually was a replacement against Holloway for Ernest Chavez. In April, the 23-year-old from Nebraska made his UFC debut and took a majority decision from Chas Skelly at UFC on FOX 11 in Orlando. The RFA veteran has six stoppages in his eight career wins, but now he’ll have to put his run on hold.

Mackinday explained Koppenhaver choked Thomas by placing Thomas in a ‘rear naked choke’…The fighting continued for approximately 10 minutes and Koppenhaver eventually released Thomas from the choke hold. Thomas was bleeding “profusely” from his face and Koppenhaver had Thomas’s blood on his shirt. Koppenhaver told Thomas to leave and told Thomas that he would kill him if he reported this and Koppenhaver went to jail. Koppenhaver said he would give his friends all of Thomas’s information and his friends would find Thomas and kill him if anything happened to Koppenhaver.”

Scott Coker: Bellator moving to monthly events in 2015; Spike TV to remain focus

“To me, one of the things we really have to focus on is, look, if you put on a bunch of fights that people don’t want to watch, then you’re going to have a very short business. And we have a good enough roster right now to make big fights in the future. I’m excited about the prospects coming up and the prospects we’re signing. We’re going back into the female fight division, and we might even start another female division in another weight class. We’re going to start building this thing up. I think it’s going to look a lot different in 18 months than it does today.”

Beijing Gold Medalist Satoshi Ishii Joins Card for Inaugural M-1 Challenge in China

Satoshi Ishii (right) is currently riding an eight-fight winning streak. | Photo: Dave Mandel/ Japanese heavyweight Satoshi Ishii is set to return to the site of his 2008 Olympics judo gold medal conquest, this time as a mixed martial artist. Russian organization M-1 Global on Monday announced that Ishii will compete against an opponent to be announced at “M-1 Challenge in China,” its Nov. 11 show at MasterCard Center in Beijing. The event, which M-1 says will be the first of 10 annual visits to China, will be headlined by Sergei Kharitonov in a separate heavyweight bout. Ishii transitioned to MMA in 2009 and has compiled a professional record of 12-2-1 while competing mostly in his native Japan. When stateside, Ishii trains primarily under Josh Barnett at CSW in Fullerton, Calif. The 27-year-old judoka has not lost since being knocked out by Fedor Emilianenko in December 2011 and is currently riding an eight-fight winning streak which includes victories over the likes of Jeff Monson , Pedro Rizzo and Tim Sylvia .

Vuyisile Colossa-Caros Fodor Rematch, 3 More Bouts Added to One FC 20 in Cambodia

Colossa upset Fodor in their first fight last December. | Photo: One FC Nine months after their first encounter, lightweights Vuyisile Colossa and Caros Fodor will meet again in the cage of One Fighting Championship . The Singapore-based promotion Monday added the 155-pound matchup to One FC 20 “Rise of the Kingdom,” which takes place Sept. 12 at Koh Pich Theatre in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Headlining the card is a bout for the inaugural One FC flyweight championship featuring Adriano Moraes and Geje Eustaquio . South Africa’s Colossa used his superior striking skills to earn a unanimous decision against Strikeforce and UFC veteran Fodor when the pair met last December at One FC 13. Colossa has not competed since, while Fodor returned to the cage in May and righted his course with a first-round submission of Willy Ni . In addition to the Colossa-Fodor rematch, One FC announced a further three fights for its Sept. 12 card: Arnaud Lepont versus Suasday Chau , Ming Yen Sung versus Radeem Rahman and Jian Kai Chee versus Amir Khan .

Couture disagrees with Bocek’s stance on PEDs: ‘If it was rampant there'd be a lot more guys coming up positive on tests’

"I didn't really agree with Mark's statement that it was rampant in Mixed Martial Arts. I don't think it's rampant. I think if it was rampant there'd be a lot more guys coming up positive on tests, and there's certainly been a few guys, but if it was rampant then it would be a whole lot more. So I don't know that I agree with that statement, but you know it's human nature."

Danny Castillo still feels overlooked, says UFC 177 co-headliner is breakout fight

“This is going to be my 19th fight with the company, which a lot of people don’t know that. I still don’t have the recognition that I should for having 19 fights with Zuffa. This will be my 11th in the UFC, and I’ve gone on streaks and had a setback. I think right now, with where I’m at in my career, I think I’m the total mixed martial artist. My ground game is great, my standup game is evolving, and the power has always been there. I’m really looking forward to this one. I’m counting on it being my breakout fight.”
