“We’ve granted Eddie his unconditional release. Eddie is free to explore the free agent market, we hold no matching rights, and we wish him the best in the future. We sat down with Eddie and his team a few times, and it became pretty clear early on that he just wasn’t interested in fighting for Bellator in the future. We want guys in this organization that want to be here, and after the history Eddie and the former regime had here at Bellator, we decided to move on. We wish Eddie the absolute best of luck with whatever is next for him. It’s a new chapter for everyone involved.”

"Well I certainly considered it. Chael called me up, obviously Chael and I have been personal friends for a long, long time and he thought I might be a viable candidate to step up if he decided to opt out, because of the pressure and the commission in Nevada, but I had to be honest with him and that's a very high caliber match. I have a lot of respect for his opponent ( Andre Galvao ). To take that on a week's notice, not having any time to prepare wouldn't have been the wisest of decisions to do that. "
Joe Rogan and Friends
“One of the most complex and exciting stand-ups working in America today. Like an idealistic hippy stuck inside the body of a testosterone-pumped US marine. He’s been likened to late great US comedians such as Bill Hicks and Sam Kinison, but although he exhibits a similar brand of furious indignation, his observations and revelations are entirely his own. His angry, insightful act is an absorbing battle between his raw libertarian instincts and his refined liberal sensibilities.”
--William Cook, The Guardian
A standup comedian for more than 20 years, Joe Rogan sells out theaters internationally with his inquisitive and intense comedic style. His third hour comedy special “Joe Rogan: Live from the Tabernacle” was released in December 2012 via his website. Rogan previously starred in two hour long specials, “Talking Monkeys in Space” (2009) now available on CD & DVD and “Joe Rogan Live” (2007) now available on DVD, and released the CD’s “Shiny Happy Jihad” (2007) and “I’m Gonna Be Dead Someday” (2000).

New GLORY CEO Jon J. Franklin says kickboxing promotion will return to Spike in late October
"I think that the time had come for a little bit of a different approach and the goal was to take what we built from strength to strength and build it further," Franklin told MMAmania.com. "Scott Rudman (director), Pierre Andurand (chairman/majority shareholder) and a couple of the board members asked if I would be interested. I said 'absolutely.' Andrew is staying on to help do some consulting and help with some of the television stuff, so I think everything is super copacetic. I'm thrilled and honored to do this. It's such a great organization and I'm pleased to be a part of it. I'm looking forward to putting on some great fights, continuing the relationship with Spike and looking toward bigger and better."

In June, Bellator MMA and Spike TV announced that Scott Coker had
replaced Bjorn Rebney as the promotion’s president. Other than a
conference call to officially announce his hiring, Coker has been
relatively quiet since then.

While Coker’s “Bellator 2.0” still needs time to be fully realized,
there is clearly a plan in place -- and it is one that the new
promotion head is excited about fulfilling.
Sherdog.com: After a whirlwind beginning, you’ve now had about
two months to settle into your new position at Bellator. What has
the transition been like?
Scott Coker: I don’t think settling in is probably the best way to
describe it. It’s more like jumping on a train that’s going 500
miles per hour. These guys are working me hard over here; they’re
cracking the whip.

“Listen, Cung Le is basically back in the UFC to boost his brand

his profile has dipped. He’s probably not getting too many
embarrassing kung-fu movie offers right now -- and probably worst
of all for him -- Channing Tatum has stopped retweeting him.”

Benson Henderson Is Far Beyond Driven
The former WEC and UFC lightweight champion is a man fueled by possibility and the potential to test his physical and mental talents against the most elite level of competition in the world. Those motivations matched with a seemingly unbreakable spirit and unique skill set have taken the MMA Lab leader to great heights in the realm of mixed martial arts, and his quest—in some senses—is far from over.
The Savage Truth: The New Normal
So, you still wanna be an f’ing MMA fan, huh?
Well, the requirements to fit into that top-tier hardcore slot have
changed a bit over the last couple years. Gone are the days of
making sure you’re home for every televised fight card. Also
history? Knowing every fighter, their names, records and
affiliations. It is an impossible task for just about every fan
save those with a photographic memory.
The “new normal,” as I like to call it, is more akin to being a fan
of other sports. You have the big fights (games) that you never
want to miss, as well as your favorite fighters (teams) that you do
your best to catch on a regular basis, and then you have the
The surprising growth experienced by the sport’s biggest and

their bold global expansion, UFC parent company Zuffa is hoping to
achieve a true worldwide mainstream audience and could very well
accomplish that goal in the next few years.

Longtime UFC target Eddie Alvarez released by Bellator MMA
The UFC offered Alvarez, the current Bellator lightweight champion, a contract when his contract was initially up in December 2012. Bellator had a matching clause and the Viacom-owned organization claimed it did match the UFC's contract. Alvarez ended up suing them, because he and his lawyers didn't believe the numbers in the Bellator contract added up to the UFC's offer. Bellator then countersued and, as UFC president Dana White warned at the time, the situation got "ugly."
Jon Jones' college roommate, Colby Covington, set to make UFC debut
It’s safe to assume as Colby Covington prepares to embark on an UFC career, he’d like to be known as more than just the former roommate of the top pound-for-pound fighter in the sport. But for an athlete hoping to make a name on an increasingly crowded roster, being the man who trained with Jon Jones before Jon Jones was Jon Jones doesn’t seem like a terrible place to start.
UFC fighter rankings: Pearson, Formiga biggest movers in latest rankings update
With very little in the way of significant fights involving top 15 fighters, few changes were made in the August 18th UFC rankings update.
"Update on Bader's hand injury: Bader fractured his hand 5 weeks ago in the same spot he broke it during the Perosh fight last December," wrote Youngs. "Worked out for a week before injury limited him to one hand. Also wasn't able to do any wrestling or grappling for 5 weeks. During the fight he had to work around the injury since he couldn't throw his right hand."

UFC fight bookings roundup – 8/12 – 8/19
Since the UFC has decided to produce 50+ events in 2014, there is a remarkable amount of fighter signings and new match-ups being set up throughout any given week. Many of these new signings are for match-ups that take place on the undercard, or on the Fight Pass portion of a PPV, so we are going to continue with a new weekly (or bi-weekly if needed) series of articles where we take a brief look at each and every bout booked by the promotion in one place.
