We do not know the seriousness of Suge's injuries.  Multiple sources now tell us Suge was one of 3 people who were shot.  At least 1 is in critical condition. Sheriff's deputies had guns drawn as clubgoers exited with their hands in the air right after the shooting.

Fighter Diet News

Fighter Diet News, by Pauline Nordin: Get Buff, Get Lean

Hi, my name is Randy and I am a 29 year old high school teacher and wrestling coach from Southern California. Unfortunately, I was recently diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiform (GBM) Grade 4. Around mid April, Southern California went through a series of heat waves. During that period, I began to experience headaches on a daily basis. I very rarely have headaches (1 or 2) a year, so I assumed they were just from my allergies. As the days went on, my headaches were getting worse and no over the counter medicine was relieving the pain. One day in the middle of May, I was driving on the freeway and had difficulties staying in my lane and my headaches were becoming unbearable, so I checked into urgent care. The physicians ordered a CTSCAN and found a mass tumor in my right parietal lobe of my brain. They then rushed me to another facility for Neurosurgery and operated on me the following day and my surgeon removed 90-95% of the Tumor. I felt like the worst was behind me and I was in the clear. A few days later my pathology test came back with the unfortunate news that I have GBM Grade 4, a form of cancer that is considered in the medical world to be incurable.

Ronda Rousey eyes UFC 182 slot, says Gina Carano 'worst style matchup for me'

“There are very few women that have had one-punch knockout power. There are other girls that they overwhelm the other person. They get TKOs and stuff like that. But Gina has one-punch knockout power, and that’s the kind of person that I have to be the most cautious of. That’s the style that’s the worst for me, and ever since the beginning, I’ve been positive that Gina is the worst style matchup for me.”

JISSN | Full text | Ketogenic diet does not affect strength performance in elite artistic gymnasts

The maintenance (or strictly speaking the visible increase, albeit not significant) of the amount of lean body mass, muscle and percentage of muscle during the period of VLCKD needs to be underlined and this muscle sparing effect can be explained through the mechanism of ketosis. As stated before, fatty acids which are normally used as a major fuel for some tissues such as muscle, cannot be used by the CNS because they cannot cross the blood–brain barrier. During starvation (fasting) this becomes a problem, particularly for organisms such as humans in which CNS metabolism constitutes a major portion of the resting basal metabolic rate (~20%). During the initial fasting period our body provides glucose for the metabolic needs of the CNS via break down of muscle tissue to provide the amino acid precursors for gluconeogenesis. Obviously the organism could not survive long under such wasting conditions and ketone bodies (KB) therefore represent an alternate fat-based fuel source that spares muscle protein [ 12 ].

MMA on Instagram: Burgers, Fishing and Lots of Shogun

Welcome to another week in MMA on Instagram! MMA stalker Katie Winter has collected the best pics that UFC and other MMA fighters and personalities were sharing this week, and they're all right here for your viewing pleasure.

Trading Shots: As the events pile up, is it getting harder to stand out?

As far as what it really changed to have relatively inactive UFC champs, I’d argue that it probably cost the UFC a good deal of money and momentum. It’s probably not a coincidence that PPV buys started trending down right as existing stars and champs started aging out or pulling up hurt. That’s why you need new stars to break through, but I think that gets harder and harder with so many events. You did great this past weekend, maybe even pulled off a surprising TKO victory? So did a half-dozen other guys, and there’s more on tap this weekend.

UFC 177: Dillashaw vs. Barao 2 fight card

MMA's biggest upset of 2014 and perhaps one of the biggest upsets in UFC history took place in Las Vegas on May 24th, when T.J. Dillashaw thoroughly dispatched and knocked out reigning bantamweight champion Renan Barao in the 5th and final round. No one could've possibly predicted that Dillashaw would finish Barao after beating him up, let alone winning at all. Normally, a one-sided whooping doesn't merit an immediate rematch, but this fight is apparently an exception. This time around, it's Dillashaw with the belt and Barao chasing the title, and they're in Sacramento, where Dillashaw trains with Team Alpha Male.

Making the Grade: Passes/Fails from the UFC's double-dip Saturday

The former Strikeforce champion has never tested positive in his career, yet this is the world we live in -- when you're 42 years old and more jacked than ever, everyone will expect steroids. Bisping requested drug testing for the fight and the UFC granted it, since the organization was the regulatory body for the bouts in Macao. Good for the UFC for picking up the tab. It's a good precedent for the future. And maybe more fighters will ask from now on. This is hardly a solution for what could be a wide-spread issue with drugs in the sport, but it's a small step in the right direction.

The three stars of the UFC’s latest weekend doubleheader

Two events, UFC Fight Night 48 in Macau and UFC Fight Night 49 in Tulsa, Okla., took place on Saturday with 42 competitors. While there was a lot of action to keep up with, three fighters turned in performances that made them stand out during a busy weekend.

James Vick out lasts Valmir Lazaro in back and forth war

Defense went out the window in the bout between former Ultimate Fighter James Vick and Brazilian prospect Valmir Lazaro as the two lightweights traded punches back and forth for 15 consecutive minutes.

Robert Drysdale not cut, despite Dana White's assertions that he had been

However, just a few hours after the story broke, John Morgan of MMAJunkie was able to confirm that Drysdale had not, in fact been released from the Zuffa promotion. He posted the news via Twitter.

UFC 178 will be like no UFC show in history

With the signing of Eddie Alvarez and his debut fight with Donald Cerrone , UFC 178 will be a unique event, both in promotion and presentation. UFC has a rule of thumb that if there is a championship fight on a card, it is the fight promoted the hardest, it is the fight the show is pushed synonymous with, and it goes on last, in the main event position. Most often, that's simply logic. The title fight is, more than 90 percent of the time, going to draw the buyers and have the most interest. While there are outliers, like big grudge matches that can garner more interest than a title match, they are rare. In those cases, UFC has almost always gone with the idea of sticking to tradition and presenting the title match as the main event. And UFC's biggest fights, historically, have been a combination of title match and grudge match, whether it's Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir or Randy Couture , Tito Ortiz vs. Chuck Liddell , Georges St-Pierre vs. B.J. Penn or Nick Diaz , or Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen . There have been some rare cases of shows where a non-championship match is bigger than the championship fight on the same show.

Back in UFC’s good graces, Danny Castillo soaking up co-main event spot at UFC 177

If anybody understands how topsy-turvy life in the UFC can be, it’s Danny Castillo. Not all that long ago, Castillo found himself in the UFC doghouse when he turned down a bout with Takanori Gomi on the advice of his coach, Duane Ludwig. He went on the MMA Hour shortly thereafter and said he regretted the decision. His penitence, presumably, was a buried prelim spot against Charlie Brenneman at UFC 172.How did he handle it? Castillo scored one of the more memorable knockouts of the year at that night at in Baltimore. Brenneman dropped like a man who’d been shot when Castillo landed the overhand right.Since then, it’s been an ebb-and-flow of changing fortunes. Castillo was booked to fight Tony Ferguson in a lightweight battle at UFC 176 in Los Angeles, but the card was "postponed" when it was learned Jose Aldo would be unable to defend his belt against Chad Mendes as slated. His fight with Ferguson was then moved to UFC 177 in Sacramento -- the home of Team Alpha Male, where he trains -- as one of the main card attractions. Then when Jon Jones got injured and his title fight with Daniel Cormier was moved from UFC 178 to UFC 182 in early January, UFC 178 got UFC 177’s original co-main…the flyweight title fight between Chris Cariaso and Demetrious Johnson.

The Hit List: Top 5 moments from UFC Fight Night: Henderson vs. Dos Anjos

Say what you will about the stoppage -- although Henderson did go down and out at least for a moment -- dos Anjos made a huge statement by knocking out the former champion and putting his name near the top of the contender's list in the division.  With the kind of power he's displayed lately along with his formidable jiu-jitsu game is there any doubt he could go with Pettis or current top contender Gilbert Melendez?  How about Eddie Alvarez if he's victorious at UFC 178 in his debut?  The fact is dos Anjos is a serious player at 155 pounds and if you didn't know it after the win over Cerrone, you better know it now.

UFC's Hector Lombard on new nickname, concerns his career was over

With weeks still to go until he’s cleared to return to training, Lombard said, he’s focused on getting a clothing company up and running to go along with his nickname change. When MMAjunkie caught up with him, he was quick to point out the “Showeather” logo on his hat and clothes, and he made a first attempt at explaining the nickname that has vexed the MMA world since he announced it this week.

UFC Fight Night: Henderson vs. dos Anjos staff picks and predictions

Mookie Alexander : Dos Anjos is a real live dog here, but I just can't bring myself to pick him to win this fight. He does have the better boxing then Ben, who has just never really had a strong command of that aspect of striking. Both men possess good leg kicks, with Henderson's historically proving to be more damaging. The deciding factor for me is the size and strength of Henderson, which is something dos Anjos tends to struggle with (see: Tibau, Khabib, Guida for strength). Henderson could make this a real rugged fight in close quarters and deliver knees to the body, knees to the thigh, his usual arsenal of strikes that the judges like to see. If this fight goes to the ground, which I think will only be done on Ben's accord, I expect fun scrambles and exchanges. Ultimately, Henderson gets the nod, and if he starts out strong he'll dominate the Brazilian. Ben Henderson by unanimous decision.

Dana White still uncertain about Gina Carano, claims he’ll have more answers in September

"Ever since the beginning I have been positive that Gina is the worst style match-up for me," Rousey said in Macau. "Even in the feeling of distance and timing, that stuff doesn't go away if you take time off. Those things are always with you like a bicycle. Gina's not going to start training when the fight is announced. She's already been training for months. I think she started quite a while ago and she only has me in mind. I expect that she's going to be extremely prepared and a very dangerous opponent despite what other people might speculate."

The UFC's lightweight limbo has become a time-honored tradition

Another Benson Henderson fight, another judging controversy. Only this time one had nothing to do with the other. Howard Hughes, not the dead tycoon but an actual breathing judge on Saturday’s first card in Macau, was made to believe he wasn’t a very good arbiter just two fights into UFC Fight Night 48. The UFC, acting as its own commission overseas, relieved Hughes of his duties for incompetence in judging the Royston Wee - Yao Zhikui and Milana Dudieva - Elizabeth Phillips ’ bouts. This became the latest unprecedented MMA act to throw its chroniclers into a tizzy. All week UFC shakers talked about the Venetian in Macau doing so many billions of dollars of gambling business per annum that a mid-event judge swap seemed… curious . More curious still because Hughes was announced as a judge on the Fight Pass ethercast for the main event between Cung Le and Michael Bisping . Then, something like 16 hours later in Tulsa, Oklahoma, former champion Benson Henderson got hammered with a left hand that buckled his legs. Rafael dos Anjos delivered it, right after he slammed home a knee on Henderson’s chin.

Jordan Mein believes he ditched 'UFC prospect' label with vicious KO of Pyle

But after Saturday night, the “Young Gun” Canadian believes he may have shed that tag. Mein (29-9 MMA, 3-1 UFC) stopped Mike Pyle (26-10-1 MMA, 9-5 UFC) in a big way with a massive left hand that sent the veteran crashing to the canvas in the first round of the UFC Fight Night 49 co-main event.

50,000 reasons for Ben Saunders to be happy to be back in the UFC

“I felt good. I definitely felt good,” Saunders said. “But it’s been a long road back. I’ve been training since January. I was trying to fight in March. Then it turned to April. Then it turned into May. Then it turned into June. Then it turned into August, and it’s just the fight game. It’s unfortunate, but once again, I was very fortunate that the UFC was able to come in, pick me up and was finally able to get me the fight. I was fortunate to perform really well.”

Dana White talks 'Crazy fun night' with Nate Diaz

While a fun night for the UFC President and his unruly employee is good news for Nate Diaz fans who are itching to see him back in the Octagon, Dana cooled the excitement a little by admitting there is still work to be done before that can happen.
