Patrick Cote stops Josh Burkman after back-and-forth scrap

"The Predator" landed one more big right-punch counter to Burkman's head and dropped the TUF veteran. From there, Burkman tried to get up but Cote controlled his hips and landed some big ground strikes, prompting the referee to call a halt to the battle.

Perez Halts Stout, Retires in Octagon

"It's all about my family," Perez said of his retirement. "I’ve dedicated my life to this sport since I was 17 — and I’m 26 now. I’ve never taken a year off, or even a break. I’ve been fighting non-stop since I was 17. I’m just ready for the next chapter. I want to open up a school, find a girl and make some babies. “I’m still going to train and help my teammates," he continued. "I’m going to help Edson Barboza get his lightweight title and help Frankie Edgar to get that featherweight title. Who knows? Maybe years down the road I’ll want to do it again. Right now I need a break." ARANTES vs. JABOUIN Calm, cool and collected, Brazil’s Felipe Arantes waited for his moment to strike and then nailed it, submitting Yves Jabouin in the first round of a clash between bantamweight veterans. A solid Jabouin flurry was followed by a thudding takedown to open the first round, and while Arantes was able to scramble his way out of trouble briefly, Jabouin wasn’t letting him out of his grip as the two went back to the mat.

Charles Oliveira Injury Gives Max Holloway Victory in UFC Fight Night Headliner

Max Holloway walked away with another victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship ’s featherweight division but not in the manner in which he had envisioned. Holloway (14-3, 10-3 UFC) was awarded a technical knockout when Charles Oliveira bowed out of their UFC Fight Night “Holloway vs. Oliveira” headliner with an apparent shoulder injury on Sunday at the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. It lasted just 99 seconds, as the Hawaiian secured his seventh straight win in anticlimactic fashion. The surging Holloway cut angles and let loose with clean punches to the head and body, forcing “Do Bronx” to change course. Oliveira (20-5, 8-5 UFC) shot in for a double-leg takedown, only to be turned into the cage before falling to the mat. Holloway disengaged, and as Oliveira stood, it quickly became evident that he could not continue. He slumped against the fence, disappointed and in pain. UFC Fight Night: Holloway vs. Oliveira live results and play by play

R1: Holloway gets off first with a counter combo. Holloway digs a left into the body of Oliveira, then again but Oliveira counters with a quick knee to the body. From southpaw, Holloway is flinging lead right hooks and tacking on straight lefts to the body to drive Oliveira back. Oliveira shoots a double-leg that Holloway stuffs, and Oliveira comes up lame -- he just turns away from Holloway's punch and drops to the ground with what looks like a shoulder injury. The fight is stopped.

UFC Fight Night Saskatoon Bonuses: Cote, Burkman, Arantes, Perez Nab $50K Awards

Patrick Cote and Josh Burkman slugged it out in Sunday’s “Fight of the Night.” | Photo: Josh Schaefer/Sherdog.com Patrick Cote , Josh Burkman , Felipe Arantes and Frankie Perez all earned $50,000 bonuses Sunday at UFC Fight Night in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Cote and Burkman were a lock for “Fight of the Night” honors after their back-and-forth welterweight scrap inside Sasktel Centre. The longtime UFC veterans tore into one another from the opening bell, and both combatants were rocked badly during the brawl. Burkman was the first to have his equilibrium skewed at the end of the first, but “The People’s Warrior” hanged tough and survived to hear the horn. Burkman turned the tides in the second when he buckled the knees of “The Predator,” but like his American counterpart, Cote was able to fend off the attrition and clear his head. Each gave as good as he got, but eventually, Cote’s raw punching power proved to be too much for Burkman to handle. A massive right hand exploded on Burkman’s face, dropping him onto his back, and Cote pounded him out moments later.

“I am glad,” said Bisping from the commentary desk during FOX Sports 1’s UFC Fight Night 74 coverage, “and no offense to Frankie Perez, because I don’t know the guy, and I’m sure he’s a very charming individual and a good person, but if he retired after knocking someone out in his second UFC win, I would say he hasn’t got the cajones to really be in this sport.”

UFC Saskatoon results and highlights: Krylov wins, Perez retires after TKO win

Beal dominated a good chunk of round 1 through his advantageous positions and hard ground-and-pound. The heavy shots hurt Kelades, who did get back to his feet and may have actually hurt Beal standing. TUF 18's Beal had an impressive takedown stuff to end the round and finished on top. Kelades upped his aggression in the 2nd round and had success with his striking, but struggled mightily with his takedown attempts. Beal noticeably slowed down his pace after expending a lot of energy in round 1. The 3rd round started with Kelades taking Beal down and gaining mount, but Beal reversed out of it. When they returned to standing there were multiple wild punching exchanges late on, with both men landing effectively. There wasn't much to separate the two in what was an entertaining fight, but the judges ultimately gave the decision to Canada's Kelades.
