Conor McGregor Pegged as Betting Favorite Over Diaz, Aldo, Alvarez
The popularity of Conor
McGregor cannot be denied at this stage of his career and
neither can his fighting prowess. The polarizing Irishman is riding
high after toppling archrival Nate Diaz this
past Saturday in the main event of UFC
202 and, as expected, the questions were flying from all angles
regarding who he’ll be fighting next.
Some argue that Diaz, who submitted McGregor via second-round
rear-naked choke at UFC 196, should be next in line to cap off the
trilogy. Others, like UFC President Dana White, insist that
“Notorious” should defend his featherweight crown against Jose Aldo , who
holds the “nterim belt at 145 pounds. Finally, there is a large
group of experts who feel that McGregor should fulfill his promise
of becoming world champ at lightweight, which would mean him
locking horns with newly-crowned 155-pound monarch Eddie
Alvarez .
While all three potential opponents offer him completely different
fighting styles, they all have one thing in common: they have
opened as betting underdogs to MMA’s biggest star.

What to Watch For: Bellator 160
This was the type of fight Bellator MMA envisioned when it signed
Benson
Henderson .
The former
Ultimate Fighting Championship and
World Extreme Cagefighting lightweight titleholder will meet
Patricio
Freire in the
Bellator 160 main event on Friday at the Honda Center in
Anaheim, California. Whichever man emerges with his hand raised
will become the No. 1 contender to reigning Bellator lightweight
champion Michael
Chandler ’s throne.
A taekwondo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt who was an NAIA
All-American wrestler at Dana College in Blair, Nebraska, Henderson
made his promotional debut at Bellator 153 on April 22. It did not
go according to plan, as he failed in his bid to unseat current
welterweight champion Andrey Koreshokov, the lopsided decision loss
snapping a two-fight winning streak. Henderson, 32, operates out of
the
MMA Lab in Glendale, Arizona, where he hones his skills under
the director of Royce Gracie
protégé John Crouch. Against Freire, “Smooth” returns to the more
hospitable confines of the 155-pound division, where wins over
Frankie
Edgar (twice), Donald
Cerrone (twice), Josh
Thomson , Gilbert
Melendez , Nate Diaz and
Jim
Miller dot his outstanding resume.

Nate Diaz taunts Conor McGregor just days after UFC 202 ends
"I didn't think for a second that I lost," Diaz said in the immediate aftermath following the fight. "I thought I won the fight at least three rounds to two if we're judging by rounds. I think he did a lot of running away that in the old days or in a real fight I think you get pointed for or in boxing you'd get pointed for it, so I think they should have taken a point away from him for running."

Opinion: 4 Takeaways From Nate Diaz-Conor McGregor 2
Editor’s note: The views and opinions expressed below are those

Now that the dust has settled and UFC
202 is in the books, it’s time to look at four key takeaways
from Conor
McGregor ’s majority decision victory against Nate Diaz .
After months of hype, the fight exceeded most everyone’s
expectations and set up the world for a potential third showdown
between two fighters who appear to be made for each other. With
both men enjoying rising stock and plenty of options, let’s break
down the most important things upon which to reflect:
1. McGregor Should Never Fight At 170 Pounds
Again
You have to give credit where credit is due, because McGregor had
absolutely no business fighting at 170 pounds for a second time.
The average fighter would have learned his lesson after being
decisively submitted by a larger man. That was not the case for
McGregor, who made the conscious decision to not only face Diaz
again at 170 pounds but to do so in another five-round fight.

Sherdog’s Official Mixed Martial Arts Rankings - A Different Kind of Update
With recent months in the
Ultimate Fighting Championship offering so many shake-ups in
the official Sherdog.com rankings, this update is different in a
way, with many stars reaffirming their status in unique ways.
Conor
McGregor ’s status atop the 145-pound division was not at stake
at UFC 202 on Aug. 20, but the Irishman’s rematch with Nate Diaz was
still of massive importance. After being embarrassed by Diaz at UFC
196 in March, McGregor turned in a career-defining performance in
another 170-pound contest, winning a majority decision over Diaz in
an instant classic. Despite his top spot in the featherweight
division, evening the score with Diaz does not assure that McGregor
will have a second meeting with Jose Aldo ,
given that “The Notorious” one is already angling for 155-pound
contendership.
Donald
Cerrone had his third straight welterweight fight in the
Octagon and looked brilliant in dispatching Rick Story in
the second round. Previously, we announced our preference to
continue ranking “Cowboy” at 155 pounds in spite of his recent
170-pound activity.

Dana White: Ronda Rousey ‘Definitely Not Fighting’ at UFC 205 in New York
The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s highly-anticipated New York
debut will have to go forward without Ronda
Rousey .
That’s according to UFC President Dana White, who closed the door
on any possibility of the former women’s bantamweight queen
competing at UFC 205 in Madison Square Garden on Nov. 12.
“She’s definitely not fighting in New York,” White said on the
UFC “Unfiltered” podcast. “I’m actually going to start building
the New York card this week.
Rousey has been mostly off the radar since her second-round
knockout loss to Holly Holm at
UFC 193 in Melbourne this past November. The end of the year was
initially the target for her return, but now it appears more likely
that Rousey won’t fight until early 2017 at the earliest.
“Nothing yet,” White said in regards to any official update
regarding Rousey’s comeback.
The
Los Angeles Times recently spoke to Rousey outside of her gym,
the Glendale Fighting Club, but the Olympic judoka refused to
answer any questions regarding her return. However, according to
the report, Rousey will train through the end of the month and make
a decision on when she will fight again.

Conor
McGregor has lived what feels like a charmed MMA existence.
During his rapid ascent into superstardom, it seems like everything
has broken right for the Irishman. That’s not to diminish his hard
work, intelligence and skill, but MMA is not a sport that lends
itself to storybook endings. Things have a way of working out for
McGregor in ways that they just don’t seem to work out for other
fighters. That never felt truer than during the fourth round of his
rematch with Nate Diaz --
one of the most improbable rounds in the history of the sport.
MMA has a way of turning quickly. There are so many ways to win
that an advantage doesn’t necessarily last for long. Mirko
Filipovic was destroying Antonio
Rodrigo Nogueira in
Pride Fighting Championships , but there was always the
possibility that the fight would shift if Nogueira got it to the
ground.

USADA hands George Sullivan provisional suspension for 'declaration of a prohibited substance'
“UFC was made aware today by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, that it has informed George Sullivan of a potential anti-doping violation and provisional suspension based on his declaration of a prohibited substance. UFC previously announced that Sullivan voluntarily disclosed this information to USADA and, out of an abundance of caution, Sullivan was removed by UFC from his scheduled bout on July 23, 2016, in Chicago. Under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, Sullivan’s declaration of the use can be taken into consideration by USADA during the results management and adjudication process.

Michael 'Venom' Page Would 'Love' to Fight Rory MacDonald
By Chamatkar Sandhu Following today's breaking news on FloCombat that Canadian welterweight Rory MacDonald had signed with Bellator MMA, fans and media members alike started to speculate and salivate over some of the potential fights available to him at the Viacom owned promotion. Right at the top of the list was a match up with arguably Bellator's breakthrough star of 2016; London, England's own Michael 'Venom' Page. FloComat reached out to MVP to get his reaction to what is no doubt a game changing moment in the sport. "I think that's amazing news for Bellator," Page said. "Scott Coker is an amazing captain of this ship with signings like that. I think there's going to be more to come as well. It's showing that Bellator is moving in the correct direction. By far they have the best production of any MMA show in the world. I enjoy being here and this just gives me one extra person to punch in the face so I'm definitely happy about that." On the prospect of fighting MacDonald which would almost certainly headline a card and instantly become one of the biggest fights Bellator could put together, Page is all over it.

OFF THE HOOK? Brock and Jon Jones Could Get Off Easy For UFC 200 Doping Violations
In a summer where Ultimate Fighting Championship received some bad news about two of their biggest fighters in Jon “Bones” Jones and Brock Lesnar, it appears as if some good news could be on the horizon for the pair. Jones and Lesnar were both flagged by the United States Anti-Doping Agency within a week of each other during “International Fight Week”, and it was feared that they would be suspended from action for nearly two years.
