Sherdog’s Top 10: Conor McGregor’s Greatest Hits - Top 10
No one could have foreseen the unprecedented heights Conor
McGregor would reach when he arrived in the
Ultimate Fighting Championship a little more than four years
ago.
A first-rate talent with the charisma to match, McGregor has since
turned the mixed martial arts world upside down. He claimed titles
in the featherweight and lightweight division, becoming the first
fighter in history to hold UFC championships in two weight classes
simultaneously. Along the way, he engaged in one of MMA’s most
memorable rivalries and felled fellow prospects, pretenders,
contenders and future champions, all while enjoying a Midas touch
at the box office. McGregor now turns his attention to the Sweet
Science’s biggest fish, as he takes on the unbeaten Floyd
Mayweather Jr. in a boxing super fight this Saturday at
T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Before McGregor attempts to clear what many view as an impossible
hurdle, the latest installment in the Sherdog Top 10 series
focuses on his greatest hits:

With Jones knocking out Cormier (19-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) at UFC 214, Gustafsson appeared to be the strongest candidate to get another title shot. Jones’ camp indicated the Swedish fighter was high on the list of immediate priorities. There were even reports a rematch was in consideration for UFC 218, but UFC President Dana White recently indicated Jones instead was being considered for a heavyweight title fight against champ Stipe Miocic.

In internal memos, CIA Inspector General portrayed the media as Agency's "principal villains"
First and foremost, they argued that the Agency shouldn’t “frontally attack” concepts such as the First Amendment and freedom of the press. Nor should any program to curb media excesses be announced. While they had praised Page’s suggestion of new legislation, they also argued that the Agency shouldn’t expect anything to materialize. Nor should they expect help from Congress on covert action - it was simply “too easy to argue there’s a public interest in debating actions that could lead to war.” Instead, the Agency should remember that journalists don’t operate in a vacuum and their support/publishing structure can be prevailed upon as a method of tempering a journalist’s activities - especially since the press had “their own reasons for wanting to improve [their] image.”

SPURS RE-SIGN MANU GINOBILI | San Antonio Spurs
SAN ANTONIO (August 24, 2017) – The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have re-signed guard Manu Ginobili. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not announced. The upcoming season will mark Ginobili’s 16th campaign with the Silver and Black, which will make him the eighth player in NBA history to spend his entire career with one team and play at least 16 seasons, along with Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, John Stockton, Reggie Miller and John Havlicek. Over the course of his 15-year NBA career, Ginobili has appeared in 992 games, averaging 13.6 points, 3.9 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.36 steals in 25.8 minutes. He has shot .447 (4,383-9,799) from the field, .370 (1,431-3,863) from three-point range and .826 (3,270-3,958) from the free throw line. The native of Argentina was drafted by the Spurs with the 57th overall pick in the second round of the 1999 NBA Draft. Coming to San Antonio in 2002, he is the Spurs all-time NBA leader in three-pointers made (1,431), while ranking second in steals (1,349), third in games (992), fourth in free throws made (3,270), as well as fifth in total points (13,467) and assists (3,838).

It’s so very much like Jon Jones --
quaintly destructive and unwittingly arrogant -- to have his second
positive steroid test come to light in the middle of fight week
buildup for the biggest combat sports spectacle in history: the
Floyd
Mayweather - Conor
McGregor circus this Saturday in Las Vegas. The news actually
broke in the middle of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series,
leading to the Ultimate Fighting Championship boss furiously
screaming into his cell phone and then becoming visibly despondent
throughout the rest of the fight card designed around auditioning
for his promotional heart.
And to think of how upset Jones was when Rashad
Evans “ruined his special night.”
Beyond the cosmic and coincidental circumstances that always seem
to make Jones’ malfeasance worse -- there was his first blown U.S.
Anti-Doping Agency test during UFC 200 fight week and his April
2015 hit-and-run incident in which he ran back to his car to grab
cash but left behind weed, a pipe, condoms, his Nevada Athletic
Commission paperwork and Funyuns in the vehicle -- there is a
contemplative value in “Bones” getting laid bare once more during
the run-up to
“The Money Fight” .

No matter what happens against Floyd
Mayweather Jr., Conor
McGregor should never box again.
It seems bizarre to say when you consider he’s facing arguably the
greatest pound-for-pound boxer of all-time and could potentially
cash a nine-figure check when it is all said and done this Saturday
at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. However, McGregor doesn’t need to
box again after he faces Mayweather. What’s the point?
Let’s assume the most outlandish of outcomes takes place and
McGregor knocks out Mayweather. The fallout would be tremendous,
and McGregor would immediately crown himself as the “King of
Boxing.” Kings should defend their crown, right? Not in this
case.
Assuming McGregor pulls off what would arguably be the biggest
upset in sports history, the only place he can truly go is down. If
you are David, you don’t give Goliath a rematch, and more
importantly, you don’t give everyone else a chance to ruin your
pristine record.

BJJ: Control your opponent's shin and sweep from half-guard by @gallerr
The half-guard is among the most used techniques in BJJ, and has many variations that enable you to put your foe with their back on the mat. Among the numerous maneuvers that can be used to sweep your opponent from the half-guard, Vincent Colcol teaches here an interesting variation that can catch enemies by surprise. The important detail is the switching of hooks on the leg, and the grip to the opponent's shin to get the sweep done. #jiujitsu #bjj #brazilianjiujitsu

Conor McGregor and His Nutritionist Dispel Floyd Mayweather's Concerns Over Missing Weight | MMAWeekly.com
“When somebody’s wrestling, you’re obviously going to be very highly anaerobic and you’re going to be burning a lot of carbs. In that sense, weight is such a big issue, it’s a huge advantage when I’m wrestling somebody or on top of somebody. Just by sheer physics if I have more weight behind me, I can push somebody over more efficiently. Where as with boxing, you have the clinch but it’s only for a few seconds so weight isn’t as much of a matter so you want to keep the weight lower for boxing. You don’t have a drastic cut. You want to make sure you have speed because speed is key in boxing,” Lockhart said.

Bellator Prospect Joey Davis on Watching Aaron Pico Lose MMA Debut: ‘It Hurt Me a Lot’
Aaron
Pico entered his Bellator MMA debut as one of the promotion’s
most hyped prospects in recent memory, but he left Madison Square
Garden that night as just another fighter with an 0-1 record.
It was far from your average debut, however. Pico occupied a sport
on the Bellator: NYC pay-per-view card, and he was paired with
Zach
Freeman , who entered the matchup with an 8-2 record and
experience against viable competition on the regional circuit. The
unheralded Freeman stunned Pico with a right uppercut and quickly
ensnared his foe in a tight guillotine, forcing the tapout just 24
seconds into the opening stanza. Suddenly, the hype train came to a
screeching halt.
Pico was packaged with a number of standout wrestlers as Bellator’s
next generation of prospects. But while the likes of Ed Ruth ,
Tyrell
Fortune , Jarrod Trice and Joey Davis
have been brought along much more slowly against less experienced
opposition, the 20-year-old American Kickboxing Academy product was
thrown into the fire immediately.
Davis, who has known Pico since they were kids, felt for his
sometime training partner as he watched the action unfold at
Madison Square Garden that night.

Patricio Freire vs. Daniel Weichel Rematch Headlines Bellator 188 in Israel on Nov. 16
A featherweight championship rematch between Patricio
Freire and Daniel
Weichel will headline Bellator 188 when the California-based
promotion returns to Israel on Nov. 16.
Bellator announced the pairing on Wednesday. Additionally, John Salter
will lock horns with Anatoly
Tokov in the middleweight co-main event. Bellator 188 takes
place Menora Mivtachim Arena Arena in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Freire and Weichel first met at Bellator 138, where “Pitbull”
scored a spectacular knockout of his German opponent 32 seconds
into the second round on June 19, 2015. After losing the belt to
Daniel
Straus at Bellator 145, Freire reclaimed the throne with a
second-round submission of Straus at Bellator 178 on April 21.
Weichel, meanwhile, has won four consecutive bouts since losing to
Freire. Most recently, the 32-year-old Team MMA Spirit
representative garnered a split verdict over John
Teixeira da Conceicao at Bellator 177. The M-1 Challenge
veteran has won eight of his nine Bellator appearances.
