The Heartbreaking American Pit Bull Statistics Everyone Needs to Know
And then I called Jason Flatt, who lives in Dallas, Georgia, and runs a rescue organization called Friends to the Forlorn. He has a hundred pit bulls on his property. He has pit bulls that have attacked other dogs, pit bulls that have killed other dogs in fighting rings, pit bulls that have bitten people, pit bulls that have bitten him. He has last-chance dogs, dogs deemed dangerous, and a large paw print tattooed on his face as a sign that he will never give up on them, no matter what. And when I told him about Dexter, he said, "Just because a dog doesn't like other dogs doesn't make him a bad dog. But that's the downside to these dogs. A lot of advocates for the breed get mad at me for saying that. But not everybody should have a dog, and not everybody should have a pit bull. I get a lot of dogs out of shelters, and each time I do I expect four things: that he's going to have an upper respiratory infection; that he's going to be heartworm positive; that he's going to have worms; and that he's going to be dog aggressive. If he's not, great. But if he is, well, that's not the point. The point is that we've decided these dogs are expendable.

The Bullet That Anderson Silva Dodged—Roy Jones Jr. | FIGHTLAND
Really, the idea of these superfights only interest people who insist that they only follow one or other of the two sports. A real fight fan should be following the men at the pinnacle of both crafts, recognizing the common areas, and appreciating both. Any MMA fighter or fan could learn a ton from Jones, and if he beat James Toney with strategies learned from watching fighting cocks, I'm sure he's more than willing to take ideas from a guy like Anderson Silva.
Don't Sleep on the UFC Macao Card | FIGHTLAND
All of the Chinese fighters have spent most of their time training in Phuket with Top Team and a few other gyms. They are a proud bunch and feel that they should be winning. Jumabieke Tuerxun’s heartbreaking loss to Leandro Issa a few weeks ago has been a hard lesson for the Chinese fighting in Macao August 23rd. The Chinese don’t have their own Conner MacGregor talking about “dominating” and calling guys out, but they definitely are here to take part. This card is the first event for them, in many ways, because there are no debut jitters, they’ve had time to learn how different it is up at this level, and they have the chance to do something big... we’ll see how they do.
Jon Jones says he owes Alexander Gustafsson 'a severe beating'

Alexander Gustafsson: To fight Jon Jones, ‘I need to be 100 percent’
On a day when UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier came to blows during a UFC 178 press conference, the odd man out, Alexander Gustafsson is quietly keeping himself in the wings. The much-anticipated rematch between Gustafsson and Jones was put on hold a couple of weeks ago when the Swede injured his knee in training. Now that Gustafsson has been replaced by Cormier for the Sept. 27 bout, he will have plenty of time to heal as he awaits the winner. Gustafsson will undergo a minor procedure to fix his meniscus in Sweden on Tuesday. The No. 1 contender made an appearance on The MMA Hour to update everyone on how he’s doing. "[It’s] not serious at all," he told Ariel Helwani. "It’s actually one of the easiest knee injuries you could have. It’s a very easy operation, it takes maybe 15-20 minutes. The recovery time is just a few weeks, and you can walk home from the surgery. It’s not a big deal at all. The thing is, it’s one of those things where it’s a small problem that can get very big if you don’t do anything about it. "For me to have a 10-12 week camp against Jones, I need to be 100 percent.

Swedish MMA Federation disolves pro-committee following Cage Warriors incident
Turns out nobody is happy with the recent Cage Warriors fiasco , in which a planned event had to be moved from Stockholm, Sweden to Amman, Jordan because the SMMAF was unable to approve the planned bouts on the card. Four of the five planned main event fights did not meet SMMAF approval to be contested under the unified rules of MMA, despite the fact that several similar UFC bouts had been or were planned for the UFC's two trips to Stockholm. It was an obvious showing of inconsistency that had many media members and Cage Warriors themselves talking of possible favoritism or even collusion in the SMMAF's approval process. It turns out that some of that talk may have been well founded, as, after an internal review, the SMMAF has decided to "dissolve" their pro-committee in the wake of this scandal. They released a press statement on their website on Sunday:
Lyoto Machida expects October return, welcomes Luke Rockhold fight
"It was a close fight, we both had our chances. Weidman did his strategy and won. I have a good chance at defeating Weidman, and I’m going after the title again. I think that, should I have started (pressing him) earlier, maybe in the second round, the results could have been different."
Nogueiras searching for new talent, from Rio to the Amazon rainforest
"One day a little boy came here to the gym asking to train with us. He was 12 years old, and he ran away from home in Recife and travelled 1,100 miles to get here in Rio," "Minotauro" told MMAFighting.com. "There’s no way we’d let him stay, and justice took 20 days to find his family because he declined to tell us his parents’ names. When he turned 18, he came back to the gym saying he wanted to train with us. That was crazy.

Malki Kawa on Jon Jones-Daniel Cormier brawl: ‘I basically broke it up’
"I get grabbed, and that’s what everybody sees me reaching down. At the end of the day, when you look at the slow mo video, you watch my hand go down, hand open, and I grab DC’s arm because he was still throwing punches. I grabbed and pulled him out. I’m the only (one) who ends up picking DC up and pulling him away from the fight. I basically broke it up. Everybody was grabbing Jones. The problem I’m having here is everyone saying ‘you punched him, you punched him,’ and I was the one who f---ing broke it up. I would never do something like that, and it’s a shame that people are trying to paint that picture."

Bloody Elbow 2014 half-year MMA awards: Best knockout
As to keep up with the format that Tim had used, I've selected 8 entries per category, but since this year's "half-year" awards is in August, I've moved the cutoff date to July 26th, which stands as the most recent UFC event (UFC on Fox 12). All of our choices are based on major MMA promotions only (UFC, Bellator, WSOF, etc.) , so that doesn't include kickboxing, boxing, Metamoris, or anything else of the sort. This was fairly difficult to sift through, so don't be angry if there's any of your favorites that have been left out.
Jon Jones, Daniel Cormier trade verbal barbs in first post-brawl interview
"I didn't expect Jon Jones to know who I was as an Olympian," Cormier said about that 2010 night in Anaheim. "I don't expect Jon Jones to know any wrestlers. He was the guy who was coming up to be the UFC champion. What I said was, how do you break the ice by insulting someone? That's the only problem I had. It was the first time he and I ever interacted. He walked up to me, he was a very tall individual. He looked down on me and started to make derogatory comments toward me telling me he can take me down so easy ... I'm like you don't even know who I am, guy? Why would I even start a conversation by being rude? That was the issue between Jon and I."
Boxing News: Bernard Hopkins-Sergey Kovalev Official for November Matchup
Even without an official date or venue, HBO Boxing wasted little
time in making known its plans for a light heavyweight
The IBF, WBA and WBO titles will be on the line as Bernard Hopkins
will do battle with Sergey Kovalev in “the first half of November”
at an “East Coast” venue yet to be determined, according to a news
release distributed to the combat sports media Monday
“Everything I do at this point in my career affects my legacy,”
Hopkins (55-6-2, 32 KOs) said in the release. “I’ve set and broken
many records, but becoming the oldest undisputed light heavyweight
world champion is the goal and Kovalev stands in the way of that
goal. He’s another young, hungry fighter and just like the ones
that came before him, he will leave the ring beltless.”
Kovalev saw action this past Saturday in a brilliant second-round
drubbing of Aussie Blake Caparello. Hopkins, just months shy of his
50th birthday, bested Beibut Shumenov in April.
“I respect Bernard Hopkins for taking this fight,“ said the
31-year-old Kovalev (25-0-1, 23 KOs).
Sources close to CP confirm that bricks were undeniably shat by at least a dozen spectators at the time of the knockout. Not among the brick-shatters were the two women in the header picture above, whose ability to emote or even feel has been eroded by years of forced drug abuse, sex trafficking, and back-alley plastic surgeries. Where once were two innocent, fresh-faced teens with their whole lives ahead of them, now only emotionless husks of human beings remain. The one on the right wanted to be an optometrist. The left, a politician. Sorry ladies, not everyone gets to have Liam Neesons as a father.
Jon Jones addresses eye pokes: 'I never said I didn't think it was dirty. It's something I need to work on'
"I never said I didn't think it was dirty. It's something I do instinctively. It's something that I need to work on, and it's something that just happens. I realize that I do it, and I realize the criticism that I get for doing it, but it's not on purpose," he explains, "If you watch my fights, when people get poked in the eyes, it's usually when I extend my arm out in a reactionary way. I do put my hands on people's foreheads to maintain distance, but to say that I'm purposely trying to poke people in the eyes, it's just inaccurate."

Abel Trujillo out; Gray Maynard now faces Ross Pearson in Maine
Stepping in to replace him will be former UFC lightweight title contender Gray Maynard, who was already scheduled to fight on the same night against Fabricio Camoes on the undercard. How Kyle Kingsbury used ayahuasca to become a happier person and a worse fighter
“There was an itch inside me when I first started fighting,” he added. “I really wanted to hurt people and I didn’t give a s–t about anything else. I just wanted to punch someone in the face as hard as I could. By the end of my career, that was gone completely. I wanted to win and compete, and more than anything to push myself to be my best, for emotional, physical, and mental wellness. But to go in there and be successful, I think you do have to have that chip on your shoulder. You have to have that angst, that small spark. You don’t have to fight angry, but you do have to have some anger inside you in order to really throw punches with aggression and really want to hurt someone else. I don’t have that anymore.”

Frank Shamrock makes his picks in Anderson Silva vs Nick Diaz and Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier
Shamrock also commented on a fight that might have been, himself vs. Anderson Silva."Totally. I thought that I'd fight 'till I was 45. And I remember Anderson Silva who was a young man when I was a young man. You know, (he) was around the game, was learning, was studying. I remember him as the soft spoken Muay Thai guy. To see his development and to see his progress in MMA, I always knew, it's like Martial Arts. The guys who keep studying will eventually be the guys at the front going 'check this out.'

Matt Brown: 'I wasn't going there to impress, I was going there to win'
"To me an impressive loss is as much of a loss as a s****y loss. I wasn't going there to impress, I was going there to win. I wasn't going to show I belong. There was one thing I was there for. I was there to f**king win. I don't want to be a d**k to anybody that's saying 'wow, good job' or whatever but I'm not happy with it."

"F–king Drysdale, he can kiss my ass," Bisping told Junkie. "I’ve never met the guy, he could be the nicest guy in the world, but what I see is a guy who failed his f–king test, then was on TRT, then said, ‘Oh, I don’t need TRT.’ He came off it and there you go, that’s my f–king problem with TRT right from the get-go. You either need TRT or you don’t. You can’t get a doctor to prescribe it and say, ‘Oh, I don’t need it and I’ll come off it.’ You’re a cheat, and now he failed his IQ test. Not only is he a steroid cheat, but he’s f–king stupid."
Why killing off UFC 176 was better for everyone
The UFC made the right choice in cancelling 176 -- for itself and for fans -- when featherweight champion Jose Aldo became injured (neck and spine) and was forced out of the main event against Chad Mendes. With everyone moaning about oversaturation, the ability to spread out an entire card of fights over the course of a few events has been a boon.

Report: Sonnen vs. Galvao Metamoris bout in jeopardy due to failed drug tests
Considering that one of the principal re-brandings that BJJ has gone under in the Metamoris organization is the listing of their athletes as "Fighters" and their bouts as a "Fight Card," that advertising may make Sonnen's case that he's "not fighting" a bit more difficult. However, grappling matches in general have not classically been considered sanctioned fights under NSAC jurisdiction, so the NSAC may have to try and set one heck of a precedent if they want to go after Sonnen here. Either way, while Ralek Gracie may not have had any problems with enlisting Sonnen's to help market his next fight card, problems seem to be following in Sonnen's wake. Stay tuned, as we'll be sure to keep you updated with more information as it becomes available.
