Emanuel Newton vs. Joey Beltran title fight headlines Bellator 124 in Michigan

The Anundson-McGeary winner will be next in line to face the Newton-Beltran winner. Anundson beat Rodney Wallace in the light heavyweight tourney’s opening round. Then he got a TKO win over Philipe Lins in July when Lins suffered a knee injury. That gave him six straight wins, including all three of his Bellator fights in 2014. McGeary, from England, stayed unbeaten at Bellator 122 when he stopped Egidijus Valavicius in the first round. That kept his streak of first-round finishes for Bellator intact with four first-round knockouts and a first-round submission for the promotion.

This 8 year old kid uses crystal grids to transmute negative energy and explains how it works

I would like to use some points from great minds of our past here. Einstein - Gave us E=MC2 and the theory of relativity, he also assured us that reality is an illusion, albeit a persistent one and that everything is an energy and to understand this energy better we need to look at the fundamentals of nature. This does not consist of pulling nature apart to make sense of how it works but rather watching how it grows and understanding the principals in which it needs to do such growing. We can know that a seed must be planted and then it will grow roots in the soil before it can grow above that soil. It's quite the same with us, only when we can break through the shell we are born into can we start spreading our roots and start growing above the soil. This is what I mean when I say material eyes and real eyes. The material eyes are part of the shell and the real eyes are what allows us to break the shell which is the Ego of the self we know as identity. This is the practicality of relativity that Einstein spoke of. If we go to the bible and look at the story of Jesus with a deeper understanding of it as a story of the conscious mind, We can see that the story of his death and resurrection is when he broke the shell of his ego and was reborn again with a higher level of consciousness.

These people I interviewed in Iran clearly loved the country. So why did it put them in jail?

I desperately wanted to film in Iran. My show, “Parts Unknown,” examines cuisines and cultures around the world, and I’ve found that if I merely show up and ask simple questions —  “What’s for dinner? What do you like to eat? do you like to cook? Where did his dish originate and why?” — people always surprise me. I try to suspend judgment, to put aside what I know or think I know and travel without fear or prejudice. I try, first and foremost, to be a good guest. People everywhere are proud of their food and their culture, and even where they have little reason to be kind to an American (Vietnam, Cuba, Gaza, the West Bank), I’ve been welcomed with enormous generosity again and again: the kindnesses of strangers. I’d heard that the Islamic Republic would be, once I got inside, particularly hospitable and rewarding.

The Fighter & The Kid

This podcast has jumped to the top of my UFC/MMA podcast list - but c'mon, once a week?. I really feel like Brendan and Bryan should be able to do at least 2 eps a week, or maybe 2 hours a pop - I mean, what else do these guys have to do during the day? Brendan habitually mispronouncing every major UFC fighter's name on the roster is a nice touch, too. I also want to hear more about Bryan's mad greco skills. I think he should do each episode shirtless.

Did Jon Jones Just Get Inside Cormier's Head? | FIGHTLAND

Media day at UFC 178 went 0 to a 100 real-quick. In front of a bunch of people—not to mention cameras from every major sports outlet—Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones touched foreheads, as many fighters do before a fight to try each other. Nothing out of the ordinary—except, seemingly unprovoked, Daniel Cormier lost his cool, put his hands around Jones’s neck and shoved him.

Chas Skelly: The Scrapper Heads to Tulsa

Throughout the history of combat sports, different regions have been known to produce a certain type of fighter. Industrial footholds churn out gritty, blue-collar types, while fighters from coastal areas seem to possess a particular brand of finesse. While there are exceptions to every archetype, the rule has usually remained consistent. In the scope of that mix, Texans have always been known for their willingness to get in and get after it, and Chas Skelly is “Lone Star State” born and bred. The Arlington representative’s hard-nosed style is reflective of the brand of fighter his home state has been known to forge, and his willingness to tussle proved to be a big factor in the immediate success he found in mixed martial arts. Skelly used his solid wrestling pedigree to venture out into a new realm of combat inside the cage, and his grinder mentality and tenacity paid immediate dividends. “The Scrapper” notched victories in his first 11 showings as a professional, and that impressive run earned Skelly a call from the premier promotion in the sport. The 29-year-old made his UFC debut against Mirsad Bektic at UFC on FOX: Werdum vs.

Imagining an MMA Hall of Fame: Borderline Candidates, Part 1 - Borderline Candidates

Editor’s note: This is the fourth installment in a five-part series examining the possibilities involved with a true MMA Hall of Fame. In the first three parts of this Imagining an MMA Hall of Fame series, we looked at fighters who would belong in such a hall without much argument. Next, we turn to the more interesting subject of fighters that might or might not belong. It is worth noting that these fighters are not necessarily weaker candidates than some of the fighters previously discussed; they just have vulnerabilities in their candidacies that make them more debatable depending upon what criteria are most important to those voting. For some, an MMA Hall of Fame should prioritize star fighters who attracted the most attention and shaped the direction of the sport. For others, the priority ought to be excellence inside the cage. Uniqueness can be a positive or a negative. Here, we lay out the case for and against a variety of figures: Continue Reading » David Abbott

Mark Hunt tweets he's 'unemployed;' Dana White disagrees

NASA Confirms the “Impossible” – Propellant-free Microwave Thruster for Spacecraft Works!

However, if like NASA we choose to focus on the results and not the method for the moment, what could be the implications of a microwave thruster-powered spacecraft? The device is so interesting because it does away with the need for lugging along a fuel supply that is about equivalent in weight to the craft it is propelling. Using solar energy to generate the power to create the microwaves in the first place becomes an option too. This would mean the engine could continue indefinitely, at least until mechanical failure brought it to a halt, though it would also limit the craft’s range to proximity to a source. For now, however, NASA’s development doesn’t even provide enough thrust to propel a peanut through space, so there is still a way to go to scale up to a mission to Mars .

BOISE – Since Brandon “Hot Rod” Hempleman’s courageous World Series of Fighting (WSOF) debut on national television against current bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes – a loss by decision in which the bloodied scrapper broke his fibula – the Twin Falls resident has been patiently waiting to get back in the cage and keep his career’s momentum from creeping to a halt. After enduring months of training for fights that never happened, with opponents dropping out from facing Hempleman for undisclosed reasons, the 26-year-old finally gets his chance Saturday night in Las Vegas, as he’ll match-up with 43-year-old Alexis Vila at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino (WSOF 12, NBC Sports Network, 8 p.m.). It’ll nearly be a year to the day since Hempleman’s last fight – a gory battle with Moraes that earned the local national plaudits. “It’s been a real rough (journey),” Hempleman said on 970 AM The Zone on the Ryan and Nick Show. “I have been all over the place mentally and emotionally. They have been booking me for fight after fight. They were falling out and not finding replacements in time, letting me run myself into the ground for nothing, is what it felt like.

Bloody Elbow 2014 half-year MMA awards: Best submission

As to keep up with the format that Tim had used, I've selected 8 entries per category, but since this year's "half-year" awards is in August, I've moved the cutoff date to July 26th, which stands as the most recent UFC event (UFC on Fox 12). All of our choices are based on major MMA promotions only (UFC, Bellator, WSOF, etc.) , so that doesn't include kickboxing, boxing, Metamoris, or anything else of the sort. This was fairly difficult to sift through, so don't be angry if there's any of your favorites that have been left out.

With Metamoris Status Uncertain, Sonnen Contacted Randy Couture as Possible Fill-In

Hollywood obligations will prevent Randy Couture from competing at Metamoris. | Jeff Sherwood/ Chael Sonnen is set to compete against Andre Galvao at Metamoris 4 in Los Angeles this weekend, but following warnings from the Nevada Athletic Commission regarding a $250,000 fine for each test failure if he does participate, Sonnen is reportedly having second thoughts. As of Tuesday, Metamoris officials told that they still expect Sonnen to compete on Saturday. However, Randy Couture ’s manager, Sam Spira, revealed that Sonnen reached out to "The Natural" about taking his main event spot if he was forced to pull out. Due to previous obligations, which include an “ Expendables 3 ” press junket on Saturday and Sunday and the Los Angeles premiere of the film on Monday -- as well a “Gym Rescue” premiere on Sunday -- Couture simply could not clear his schedule enough to compete at Metamoris in place of Sonnen. “If there had been more time, and no pending obligations, it might have happened,” Spira said.

NSAC files complaint against Silva as 'unarmed combatant,' asks for court costs, other relief

The AG’s office seeks costs associated with the Silva case, including investigative costs and attorney’s fees, and any other punishment the commission sees fit, which could include barring him from applying for a license in the state for a period of time. Silva has 20 days to respond; his case will be addressed at a commission hearing at a date to be determined.

UFC fight bookings roundup – 7/29 – 8/5

Since the UFC has decided to produce 50+ events in 2014, there is a remarkable amount of fighter signings and new match-ups being set up throughout any given week. Many of these new signings are for match-ups that take place on the undercard, or on the Fight Pass portion of a PPV, so we are going to continue with a new weekly (or bi-weekly if needed) series of articles where we take a brief look at each and every bout booked by the promotion in one place.

Champ in progress: How Jon Jones is learning to make 'fake' work for him

The more Jones plays choir boy while the adults are looking, the more Cormier sputters and chokes on his own rage. Cormier’s the straight man here, the guy begging the pro wrestling ref to turn around in time to see the villain tucking the brass knuckles back inside his shorts. Jones is the guy who knows that you know what he’s up to, and is going to keep on doing it anyway.

Jake Shields-Ryan Ford Main Event Set for WSOF 14 in Edmonton

Jake Shields has a new date for his WSOF debut. | Keith Mills/ Former UFC title contender Jake Shields will venture into hostile territory to make his World Series of Fighting debut against Canadian Ryan Ford . first reported the matchup, and an official from the Las Vegas-based organization Tuesday confirmed to that Shields will travel to Ford’s hometown of Edmonton, Alberta, for the welterweight main event of WSOF 14 . The NBC Sports Network-broadcast card will emanate from Edmonton Expo Centre at Northlands. Shields was forced to withdraw from a planned July 5 encounter with Jon Fitch after suffering an injury in training. A winner in two of his last three outings, the 35-year-old American jiu-jitsu practitioner was unexpectedly released by the UFC after a March decision loss to Hector Lombard . Ford, 32, also pulled out of his most recent assignment, a match with Bristol Marunde which would have served as the main event of WSOF Canada 2 . “The Real Deal” has won six in a row, including his February promotional debut, a 53-second knockout of Joel Powell .

We’ll force our interns to keep an eye on Hunt’s Twitter until something pops up, but in the meantime, anyone care to speculate the cause of Hunt’s confusion? Like, do you think some “Bigfoot” fan who does a spot-on Dana White called up Hunt and tricked him? Or is this Hunt’s way of pulling some Nick Diaz-Nate Diaz powerplay ? Do you really think that Axel’s question was the dumbest thing Dana White has *ever* heard? And can you imagine what a UFC contract negotiation with Tito Ortiz was like, especially toward the end?

The Savage Truth: Tough Choice for Sonnen

It was reported early Monday that the Nevada Athletic Commission had warned Chael Sonnen against competing in Saturday’s Metamoris 4 jiu-jitsu event or risk a steep fine for each of his recent drug test failures. Most people know my stance on PEDs in combat sports, and if you don’t, well, let’s just say I’m not a big fan. Though I feel conflicted, I have come to the conclusion that this is a huge overreach by the NAC. So, what will the man with the silver tongue decide to do? Well, that is the $500,000 -- or perhaps $1 million -- question. Right now, it seems Sonnen has a couple choices. He can go ahead with the match and hope the NAC is bluffing, a move akin to shoving all your chips with a middling hand at best. Or, he can muck his cards and ensure he won’t be sent to the rail with a big chunk of change left behind in the commission’s pocket. I am not sure what Sonnen will do, but a pull-out would certainly leave Ralek Gracie and the rest of the Metamoris crew in a tight spot considering Sonnen has been one of the most publicized competitors on the card.

The only thing the Jones-Cormier brawl did for the UFC was make it more money

The brawl itself was silly, immature and largely uncharacteristic of the two men. But the media attention it got was priceless -- better than any amount of trash-talking interviews would have garnered. Hell, the UFC was arguably the biggest newsmaker of the day. The Jones-Cormier fight accrued 50,000 Google searches, tied with the death of former White House press secretary James Brady and "Bachelor in Paradise" for the most Monday. The UFC's marketing and public relations departments could not have devised a better strategy.

Daniel Cormier: 'I've had to overcome way bigger obstacles than Jon Jones'

A lot will be written in the coming weeks about the history that’s brought Jones (20-1 MMA, 14-1 UFC) and Cormier (15-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) into the cage, and what will actually take place when they fight legally. More than likely, Cormier is going to face questions about how he’ll be able to counteract Jones’ physical gifts. He will likely stay the underdog.
