She believes Carano would be "the hardest competitor I could ever find to fight."

Report: Former UFC Fighter Josh Grispi Charged for Suspicion of Assault on Wife

Josh Grispi is suspected of assault on his wife. | Photo: Sherdog.com Former UFC and WEC competitor Josh Grispi was recently charged with domestic abuse and assault in Middleboro, Mass., according to a report in the Taunton Daily Gazette . The 25-year-old Grispi allegedly assaulted his wife twice in four days and had his pit bull attack her as well. “It’s the worst case of domestic abuse I’ve ever seen,” police officer Richard Harvey told the Gazette. Grispi was initially arrested on Friday on charges of assaulting his wife but was released on $2,000 bail. He was arrested again on Monday and is currently being held on $100,000 bail and assault charges, according to the report. Grispi pleaded innocent to the charges on Tuesday in Wareham District Court. Police told the Gazette that they discovered a pot farm, weapons and ammunition upon searching Grispi’s home on Monday. Grispi’s 3-year-old child was found next to “a box of unsecured guns and ammunition” when police arrived. Grispi, who is currently being held at the Plymouth House of Correction, faces a lengthy list of charges.

Heyman: Brock Lesnar finally healthy, would consider UFC return if WWE situation changes

"He had a clean bill of health, finally. Brock was not ready for the Overeem fight, and I think that's fairly obvious. A liver kick, well placed, will drop any human being on the face of this planet. A liver kick from Alistair Overeem , at that size and weight -- no matter how he achieved it -- is going to drop any human being. Brock was unhealthy walking into that fight with Alistair Overeem. I don't think that Brock has ever truly understood nor accepted until he got past it, the severity of the illness that took him down. Brock, once he got past the Overeem fight, had all these treatments, switched treatments and doctors and finally got a clean bill of health."

Dustin Poirier's desire to fight Conor McGregor was financial, not personal

The extremely charismatic McGregor stole the show during the fan Q&A on Tuesday, even with headliners Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier also up on stage. Poirier was pretty subdued. He's not the trash-talking type. But he was probably smiling on the inside. In his mind, McGregor is going to sell the fight with his mouth and Poirier is going to finish it with his fists. The two will meet at UFC 178 on Sept. 27 in Las Vegas.

Video of K-1's Buakaw Banchamek abusing a puppy surfaces

Buakaw starts by playing a sort of "quit hitting yourself" game with the puppy, but is increasingly aggressive in how hard he hits the dog with its own paw. It gets worse as he continues and the dog begins trying to get away and yelps in obvious pain and panic. That takes about 10 seconds to unfold. At that point, Buakaw begins jamming the dog's paw in it's mouth which draws more desperate yelping before he begins to swat the dog in the face again.

Matt Hobar's Sense of Urgency

Matt “The Crowbar” Hobar has held several titles over the course of his athletic career, but none are more valuable to him than the ones he earned as a wrestler. “That was one of the greatest things to ever happen to me in my life, all those accomplishments I had in wrestling,” the former Legacy FC bantamweight champion says. Hobar placed all four of his high school years in the Texas state wrestling championships, taking first his junior and senior year, but while so many others in his position would go on to wrestle on a college scholarship, Hobar had had enough of the sport he started the same year he entered kindergarten. “I started wrestling when I was five years old,” he said. “I began Judo at seven and reached purple belt and I was going to go on and wrestle in college but got too burned out, and I didn’t work out at all. My first two years of college I did nothing and lost direction as to where I wanted to be athletically. I picked up jiu-jitsu and when I was 22 I had my first amateur (MMA) fight.” A broken neck and a serious elbow injury later, Hobar persevered and now finds himself at the age of 27, fighting for the second time in the world’s premier MMA promotion.

Conor McGregor Willing to Fight Aldo at UFC 179 if Mendes Suffers Injury

If all goes well at UFC 178, Conor McGregor wouldn’t mind another quick return. | Ciarán Maher /Sherdog.com UFC featherweight Conor McGregor has very little patience these days. Ever since making his return from an ACL injury and scoring a scintillating first-round TKO over Diego Brandao , the Irishman has stated that he doesn’t plan to do much waiting in line while the rest of the division awaits their turn at a title shot. With a crowded group lobbying for a shot at Aldo, McGregor is aware that he needs to quickly make an impression in order to add his name to the rest of the featherweight fray. And he has just the plan to make it happen. The Dublin native will make a swift return to the Octagon at UFC 178 when he faces Dustin Poirier for his second fight in just over two months. If McGregor has his way, this won’t be the last quick turnaround you’ll see from him this year. “They are bringing the big dog over here on one of the biggest cards of the year, and I’m going to capitalize on the opportunity,” McGregor said during UFC 178 media day in Las Vegas on Monday.

Bloody Elbow 2014 half-year MMA awards: Best fight

Michael Chandler vs. Will Brooks, Bellator 120 . With Eddie Alvarez out and Will Brooks in on short notice, Michael Chandler was thought to be way too much for "Ill Will", especially given the time to prepare. It sure looked that way in the first round, and through parts of the second round, too. Brooks took command of the 3rd round and essentially was able to take Chandler's back for fun for the remainder of the fight. Chandler finished strongly in the 5th after being pummeled and nearly finished in the 3rd and 4th rounds, but it wasn't enough for the judges. A slow fight after 10 minutes turned into a thriller in the last 15, and while controversial, Brooks was given the split decision nod in what will double as a candidate for biggest upset. ( GIF )

Jon Jones on Wrestling Matchup at UFC 178: I’m Looking Take Down an Olympian

Jon Jones plans on taking Daniel Cormier down at UFC 178. | Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com Jon Jones has accomplished the feat numerous times already: Take down a more celebrated wrestler in the Octagon and dominate. For example, “Bones” has had his way with the likes of Ryan Bader , a two-time NCAA All-American at Arizona State University, and Chael Sonnen , an All-American at Oregon and a silver medalist at the 2000 Greco-Roman World University Championships, to name a couple. After taking down Sonnen and finishing him in the opening frame at UFC 159, Jones proudly proclaimed that he was able to ‘Chael Sonnen’ Chael Sonnen -- in other words, beat him at his own game. Jones’ wrestling has been a signature throughout his run to the 205-pound title and during his subsequent reign. That won’t make it any less satisfying if he is able to do the same to Daniel Cormier , a two-time Olympian, at UFC 178 . In fact, the former junior college national champion has made it his mission to test Cormier’s 100 percent takedown defense rate come Sept.

"It's not news that I want to face Vitor Belfort or Chael Sonnen," Silva told Brazilian media outlet lancenet.com  (h/t Bloody Elbow ). "But Dan Henderson is another guy that I want to fight, it's a viable possibility. We're 1-1 tied and it would be nice to have a tiebreaker of our score. Fact Check: World Series of Fighting 12

Luis “Baboon” Palomino sports 14 finishes among his 22 career victories. | Photo: Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com Forgive Luis Palomino and Lewis Gonzalez if they have career advancement in mind. Palomino will battle the undefeated Gonzalez in the WSOF 12 main event on Saturday at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, with the winner perhaps emerging as a contender for the World Series of Fighting lightweight crown currently held by Justin Gaethje . The 25-year-old Gaethje has run roughshod over the 155-pound division, rattling off five straight stoppages since arriving in the promotion in March 2013. An MMA Masters export, Palomino has won nine of his past 12 bouts, including knockout victories over Daron Cruickshank , Charles Bennett and Gesias Cavalcante . The 33-year-old Peruvian brawler made his organizational debut at WSOF 8 in January, when he took care of Jorge Patino with second-round punches at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Calif. Durable and strong-willed, Palomino has not been finished since Pat Curran submitted him with a Peruvian necktie under the Bellator MMA banner more than three years ago.

Opinion: Dana White should open the door to Tim Sylvia

Sylvia exited the UFC off the loss to Nogueira and, despite the fact that he'd turned in one of his best, most exciting performances in a long while, no one seemed to mind seeing him go. There was little shame in his follow-up loss to Fedor Emelianenko , but the knockout at the hands of aged boxer Ray Mercer came off quite a bit worse. In the fans' eyes, Sylvia turned into a joke (never mind that if any other heavyweight decided to get into a boxing match with Mercer, they would've likely suffered the same fate). As often happens, fan commentary around the internet turned cruel. Sylvia became a sort of lightning rod of disdain and ridicule that far exceeded anything he himself had earned. Sylvia's great desire for fan affection and his desperate attempts to be accepted (the tweets, the workout videos, and so on) only seemed to make things worse. The heap of derision turned toxic. Despite having won three straight (including a TKO of Paul Buentello, whom the UFC had seen fit to bring back for a final tour in the Octagon), Sylvia was not included in Strikeforce's heavyweight tournament, while Arlovski, who had just been knocked out twice in a row, was.
