Phelia vs. Eric
Ramirez throws out a few range finding punches as Phelia plays the
outside. Ramirez with an outside low kick followed by a left-right
combination. Ramirez with a spinning back fist off the mark, and
Phelia changes levels to complete a takedown. Ramirez threatens
with a guillotine, but nothing there. “The Ram” looks for an
armbar, but immediately switches to a triangle choke. Phelia’s arm
is inside preventing the choke from being fully locked up, but
Ramirez keeps his opponent in position against the cage. “The Ram”
gives up on the choke, and Phelia postures up to start landing some
solid punches to the head of the Michigan native. Phelia stacks up
and continues raining down punches, but Ramirez attempts a heel
hook. Phelia is defending well while trying to roll out of danger,
and with 1:00 left on the clock, Ramirez abandons the submission,
and springs to his feet. Phelia’s knee buckles and he falls to his
back. “The Ram” takes top position and begins laying down some
punches. Ramirez with an armbar attempt, but Phelia steps over, and
lands some peppering shots as the bell sounds.

Mayweather vs Maidana 2: Watch full fight video online of Mayweather vs. Maidana I
This weekend's Mayweather vs. Maidana fight is a rare beast in boxing - a Floyd Mayweather rematch. This marks only the second time in his soon to be 47 fight career that Mayweather has taken a rematch (the last was against Jose Luis Castillo back in 2002 - Mayweather won that rematch via decision). Yet there's no question Maidana earned this second crack at the king thanks to his supremely impressive performance in May when they first fought. That first fight ended in a majority decision win for Mayweather with scores of 116-112, 117-111 (which is ridiculous), and 114-114. Most analysts agreed that Mayweather won the fight, but by a narrow margin. Now, Maidana will look to better that performance and close the show.

There's no doubt that Jon has had his share of issues since he's been the champ, but I wouldn't say that Jon Jones isn't popular."

Jack Slack: Conor McGregor Is the Future of Mixed Martial Arts | FIGHTLAND
In this writer's humble opinion, McGregor embodies everything that the sport of mixed martial arts needs. And I don't mean the smack talking and the call outs. Nor am I talking about the man who can absorb the attention of the whole room when sat between two fighters twice his size at the press conferences. I don't even mean the surprisingly understated and thoughtful guy who quietly mingled and chatted with press before watching his friend Gunnar Nelson fight at the O2.

BREAKING: Neel Kashkari tells CAL-FFL he'd veto gun bills
Following a number of Twitter and Facebook posts by CAL-FFL and its supporters earlier today, California gubernatorial candidate Neel Kashkari told the association that he "would veto" the four gun control bills on Governor Jerry Brown's desk.
In a February presentation to students at Cal State Sacramento, Mr. Kashkari made perplexing statements on the polarizing topic of gun laws, comments that the gun rights community largely viewed as "uneducated." As reported by CalNewsroom.com 's John Hrabe, Kashkari's follow-up comments to gun rights supporters "caused a firestorm...among California’s grassroots gun activists."
But CAL-FFL President Brandon Combs says that Kashkari's apparently hard-line stance against the gun bills passed by the Legislature this year is a change for the better.
"Neel Kashkari's views on Second Amendment civil rights has been a trying experience for us, to say the least," noted Combs. "However, we're certainly encouraged by his new position and welcome the move towards embracing fundamental individual liberties. Perhaps Mr. Kashkari took my advice after all.

Sifting through a busy combat sports schedule to find fights worth watching
Gleison Tibau (29-10) vs. Piotr Hallman (15-2), UFC Fight Night 51, Brasilia, Brazil: When Bigfoot Silva went to a lackluster decision over Andrei Arlovski as the co-feature to Alistair Overeem's knockout of Brett Rogers back on a 2010 Strikeforce show, did you walk away thinking "Man, I can't wait for a Bigfoot-Arlvoski rematch?" Yeah, neither did we. So, while UFC Fight Night 51 looks on paper to be nothing special, the lightweight co-main in Brasilia looks like one you shouldn't sleep on. It seems unfair to use the term "gatekeeper" for Tibau, because he's been around so long by this point, with nearly two dozen UFC fights, that the term "survivor" seems more appropriate. Hallman, meanwhile, is an MMA Lab import from Poland. He's 2-1 in the UFC, and has earned post-fight bonuses for each of his two wins. A victory over someone as respected as Tibau would signal it's time to take Hallman seriously at 155.
JISSN | Full text | The effects of consuming a high protein diet (4.4 g/kg/d) on body composition in resistance-trained individuals
It is unusual that despite no change in their training volume, the ~800 kcal increase
in caloric intake had no effect on body composition. This is the first overfeeding
study done on well-trained individuals; thus, one might speculate that their response
differs from sedentary individuals. Although there was no significant change in the
mean value for body weight, body fat, lean body mass or percent fat, the individual
responses were quite varied. This may be due to the fact that other dietary factors
were not controlled (e.g. carbohydrate intake). There was a mean increase in carbohydrate
intake (~14%) in the high protein group. This was not significant due to the wide
variation in intakes. Of the 20 subjects in the high protein group, 9 consumed more
carbohydrate whereas 11 decreased or maintained the same intake. It is unclear if
consuming protein only during the overfeeding period in the absence of fat or carbohydrate
intake alterations would differentially impact body composition; however, we would
speculate that protein overfeeding alone would likely have no effect on fat mass while
promoting gains in lean body mass concurrent with a heavy resistance training regimen
geared towards skeletal muscle hypertrophy.

Coincidentally, that date coincides with the approximate date Diaz is now expected to appear in court as a result of his latest arrest. “I am so glad that I decided to finally try Fighter Diet after knowing about it for over a year, but never attempting. I recently did my first bodybuilding competition as a lightweight and placed 1st in my class. The dieting was horrible, though I stuck with it, all 3.5 months were hell! Excuse my language. The mood swings associated with “old school” bodybuilding diets that have almost zero carbohydrates and the lack of energy to do anything almost, is what almost deterred from wanting to compete again. After my competition I was afraid of gaining weight like most competitors do and I didn’t want to live my life eating small portions and always feeling hungry. So, I bought my first FD Ebook which happened to be FD Extreme and currently on the 1500cal plan. So far I have managed to

Ebola is ‘devouring everything in its path.’ Could it lead to Liberia’s collapse?
With projections of the disease's spread unreliable and inconsistent (the WHO has said the total number of infections in West Africa could reach 20,000; at least one long-term model put the number north of 100,000), it's hard to tell exactly just how big the threat is to Liberia. But a London epidemiologist who is studying Ebola's spread in Monrovia has said that the rapidly spreading virus has the potential to infect the majority of Liberia's population, according to Britain's Channel 4 News .

“Right now, it doesn’t really matter to me (who I fight),” Dos Santos said. “I just want to fight. I want to fight before the end of the year because it’s very important. In October, it’s going to be one year that I haven’t had a fight. It’s making me very frustrated, and I’m feeling very nervous about that. That’s what I do. That’s what I love to do, and that’s what I do to live, and I can’t wait to be back.”
Cage Warriors title challenger Cory Tait: 'Mayweather's the richest guy in sports and he don't weigh much more than me'
So again, long story short, I don't think I'm exactly where I need to be, in terms of respect and stuff like this. A lot of fighters in this country, and even promoters and stuff like this, a lot of people still count me out in a lot of fights. I mean, I've got eight wins. I still got two losses, but in those eight wins, I've never gone the distance. Four knockouts, four submissions. I mean, I don't think there's anybody that's really as versatile as me in this country. And I think, it's not until I get to the UFC and then knock someone out, and then the UK's gonna be like, "Oh my god, like, he's the savior!" Like, "Dadadada" You know how it goes, isn't it. I don't want to be like, Mike Tyson style, and just hate on everybody. Once I actually blow and make it, like, "Aw, fuck them. They never helped me get here in the first place." I don't want to have that chip on my shoulder, man. But, it's difficult, it's difficult, but you know, you get through it.

UFC Fight Night: Silva vs. Arlovski II staff picks and predictions
Zane Simon : This is do or die time for Dashon Johnson. The UFC can't lob many easier opponents at him than Pepey, and that's fresh off a flying knee KO for the Brazilian. Unfortunately, winning this fight would mean having improved a lot from his debut a few months ago. Johnson is incredibly limited in his defensive awareness (a byproduct of a can-heavy record). And more unfortunately, he's at his worst on the ground, where he just doesn't seem to realize when he's in a really bad position, or how to get out of it. Pepey may be unpolished on his feet, and overaggressive in his grappling, but Johnson has too much catching up to do to win fights in the UFC right now. Godofredo Pepey by submission, Round 1.

Boxing: Nothing but a Number, Right?
Floyd Mayweather Jr. turns 38 in February. | Photo: Mike
The scars are there if you look close enough. They traverse the
corners of his eyebrows in short lines, and his face, though barely
touched, is weathered from more than 30 years of boxing.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. does not like to talk about it. Nobody really
likes to talk about what they once were, when their skin was tight
and muscle definition sharp, as opposed to when they hit those 30s
and there is a glint of the middle-aged paunch and all the sculpted
work goes to pot. Mayweather has more than a few years before the
onset of that, but the undisputed welterweight king and the world’s
best pound-for-pound fighter has shown some cracks in his
impregnable veneer lately. Sometimes we forget he is 37 years
Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) may have reminded everyone in May,
when he shocked the boxing world by giving “Money” his toughest
fight since Mayweather won a split decision over Oscar De La Hoya
in May 2007. The De La Hoya fight generated a record-breaking 2.

The Perils of Bellator MMA’s New Approach
Bellator President Scott Coker replicate the success he enjoyed
with Strikeforce? | Photo: Keith Mills/Sherdog.com
When Scott Coker was announced as new president of Bellator
MMA , the decision was met with near universal acclaim from fans
and pundits alike. Coker, after all, has a proven track record as
one of MMA’s savviest and most successful promoters. He built the
brand into a regional and then national power and succeeded where
many other aspiring mixed martial arts promoters had failed. It
also did not hurt that Bellator founder Bjorn Rebney had alienated
many during his time running the company. Coker has been hailed as
a panacea for all that ails Bellator.
While Coker’s track record provides reason for optimism, he returns
to an MMA landscape radically different from the one that existed
the last time he was genuinely steering the Strikeforce ship more
than three years ago. Moreover, he takes charge of a promotion that
is structured and monetized in a completely different way than
either the San Jose, Calif.

Bellator 124: Newton vs. Beltran live results, streaming video and play by play
R2: Newton starts the round with his kicking game at range, thowing spinning heel kicks and side kicks to the body. Beltran is trying to swarm him and eventually catches him in the clinch about a minute in. Newton works his way out, lands a hard knee, and tries to go back to his kicks. Beltran cuts him off immediately, and Beltran swarms him against the fence. They're trading shots, but Beltran is landing a lot more as Newton covers and tries to counter. Newton looks a little frustrated. They separate and Newton goes for a spinning back fist and doesn't land it. Beltran clinches him up, Newton pushes him off and comes forward with a 1-2 and kick combo. Beltran gets him back in the clinch and is throwing a lot of short knees. Newton shrugs him off again and tries to go back to his combo kickboxing, but Beltran's punches are a lot faster and in a lot more volume. Beltran backs newton up and lands a slapping high kick as Newton tries to circle off. Newton is just trying to stay at range and land single big shots. Finally he drives in with a double and gets Beltran down. Beltran lands a couple elbows from bottom and immediately scrambles to his feet.
'Bellator 124: Newton vs. Beltran' live results
Then Newton turned the tide in a moment’s notice as Beltran walked straight into a spinning backfist that knocked him out cold and kept the belt stationary. It was deja vu for the 30-year-old champ, who delivered a career performance 10 months ago when he knocked out Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal with the same strike to win the interim title.
Floyd Mayweather: Opponents Have Used Dirty Tactics Against Me My Entire Career
Despite popular opinion, Floyd Mayweather Jr. doesn’t think his
first fight with Marcos Maidana was all that close.
However, boxing’s pound-for-pound king wants to please the fans,
which is why the rematch with Maidana will take place on Saturday
at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas -- just four months
after he captured a majority decision against the Argentina
“Well, the fans demanded it, the fans said it was real exciting,”
Mayweather said during a recent conference call. “My team had a
meeting. They came up with this guy, and like I said before, I’m a
man of my word. Just like I said after the fight, if you feel like
you want to do it again, let’s do it again.”
In their first bout, Mayweather struggled early against his
opponent’s pressuring, aggressive style but gradually made the
necessary adjustments to pull away down the stretch. Still, not all
the ringside judges agreed that Mayweather was the clear-cut
winner. While Burt Clements (117-111) and Dave Moretti (116-112)
saw the fight in favor of “Money,” Michael Pernick scored it
