Report: Jose Aldo, Ricardo Lamas Agree in Principle to Rematch at Unnamed December UFC Card

A hotly-rumored matchup appears one step closer to actualization. Brazilian media outlet Combate reported on Monday that former Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight champion Jose Aldo and one of his previous title challengers, Ricardo Lamas , have agreed in principle to a rematch. According to the report, both men and their management have agreed to a second meeting in December, though no date and event have been set yet. Aldo and Lamas previously met in February 2014 at UFC 169 from Newark, N.J., where the Brazilian used his superior leg kicks to earn a five-round unanimous decision and retain his title. Aldo last fought this past June at UFC 212 in Rio de Janeiro, where he was knocked out in the third round by Max Holloway for the UFC featherweight crown. Since his own loss to Holloway in June 2016, Lamas has finished Charles Oliveira and Jason Knight in impressive fashion. The 31-year-old Aldo has kept his name in the media since his loss to Holloway, claiming both that he wants to fight before 2017 closes out as well as revealing his desire to have professional boxing matches.

UFC champ Michael Bisping: Georges St-Pierre fight could be my last – win or lose

“My family wants me to retire, my wife wants me to retire,” Bisping said. “There’s a lot of people saying, ‘Mike, you should retire.’ My manger says it. Everyone says I should retire as champion. I’ve made some money along the way, I’ve had a great career, I’ve represented my country. I’ve received more through mixed martial arts than I ever could have dreamed of. But you can’t go on forever. You have to know when the time is right. I’m not saying the time is right, but I am contemplating. We’ll see.”

From #theMMAHour *after hour* Q&A re: the stigma in tapping to strikes …

Cris Cyborg has no desire to beat up Ronda Rousey while she's down

As for Cyborg, given the fight would still probably do big numbers on pay-per-view, it would’ve been easy for her to try and capitalize with another Rousey callout. But Cyborg essentially has showed mercy with her response, alluding to the fact that she wanted the fight when Rousey “had all the confidence in the world.” She has no interest in proverbially kicking her while she’s down and is only a shell of what she used to be.

Matches to Make After UFC Fight Night 116

Fifteen months after he ceded the Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight throne to Michael Bisping , Luke Rockhold started to pick up the pieces. The American Kickboxing Academy standout and Henri Hooft protégé overcame a slow start to strike former two-division World Series of Fighting champion David Branch into submission in the second round of their UFC Fight Night 116 main event on Saturday at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh. Branch, who entered the cage on an 11-fight winning streak, tapped out 4:05 into Round 2. Rockhold spent the first round getting his bearings. Branch employed heavy pressure, did all he could to capitalize -- FightMetric showed him outlanding the favorite by a 36-19 margin in the first round -- and seemed to have the Californian reeling with a flurry of power punches inside the first five minutes. Rockhold answered his aggression with some of his own in the second ground, where he grounded, mounted and eventually finished the Renzo Gracie -trained Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt. In the aftermath of UFC Fight Night “Rockhold vs.

Luke Rockhold Strikes David Branch into Submission in UFC Fight Night 116 Main Event

Luke Rockhold needed a round to knock off the rust after a 15-month layoff. Once he did, the onetime Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight titleholder zeroed in on David Branch . Rockhold struck the former two-division World Series of Fighting champion with second-round punches in the UFC Fight Night 116 headliner on Saturday at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh. Branch (21-4, 3-3 UFC) tapped to strikes 4:05 into Round 2, his run of 11 straight victories at an end. Not all went according to plan for Rockhold (16-3, 6-2 UFC), who appeared for the first time since being upset by Michael Bisping at UFC 199. The 32-year-old American Kickboxing Academy star struggled to gain a foothold in the fight in the first round, as Branch met him with merciless forward pressure and had him reeling against the cage with power punches at one point. Rockhold withstood the assault and pushed the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt into the second round. He struck for a takedown with a little more than two minutes left in the frame, climbed immediately to mount and started dropping punches.

UFC Fight Night 116 Medical Suspensions: ‘Zu’ Gets Indefinite Layoff For Right Eye Injury

A pair of late replacements are looking at the most serious suspensions after UFC Fight Night 116 . Heavyweight slugger Azunna Anyanwu suffered a three-round decision loss to Justin Ledet , stepping in on a week's notice for Ukraine's Dmitriy Sosnovskiy , while welterweight Alex Reyes filled in on just three days' notice for co-headliner Thiago Alves , suffering a first-round knockout defeat against Mike Perry . Anyanwu now faces an indefinite suspension pending an ophthalmologist clearing his right eye injury, while Reyes will sit for 60 days after his knockout. Anyanwu and Reyes head the list of suspensions released Monday by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission, following UFC Fight Night 116, which took Saturday night place at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh. The card was headlined by former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold pounding out former two-division World Series of Fighting kingpin David Branch in the second round. Krzysztof Jotko , Sergio Moraes and Jason Saggo all join Reyes with mandatory two-month suspension periods following their respective knockout losses.

UFC Fight Night 123 Marks Promotion’s Fresno Debut on Dec. 9

The Ultimate Fighting Championship will head to Fresno, Calif., for the first time on Dec. 9. The event, entitled UFC Fight Night 123, will take place at the Save Mart Center. The card will air on Fox Sports 1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass. No bouts were revealed for the event. While the UFC will be making its inaugural journey to Fresno, the city has hosted large mixed martial arts promotions in the past. The now-defunct Strikeforce organization held multiple events at the Save Mart Center beginning in 2006, while Bellator MMA last traveled to Fresno for Bellator 156 on June 17, 2016. The UFC has held 25 events in California in the past 11 years. Most recently, the Las Vegas-based promotion brought the Octagon to Anaheim, Calif., for UFC 214, which was headlined by a light heavyweight title bout between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones .

LW Champ Eduard Folayang to Face FW Champ Martin Nguyen at One ‘Legends of the World’

A champion vs. champion matchup is set for the headliner of One Championship’s Nov. 10 event. The promotion recently announced that lightweight king Eduard Folayang will defend his title against featherweight tiltist Martin Nguyen at One “Legends of the World” at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila. Folayang, 33, enters the bout on a four-fight winning streak, including a third-round TKO victory over Shinya Aoki to claim 155-pound gold last November. “Landslide” last appeared at One “Kings of Destiny,” where he took a five-round verdict against Ev Ting on April 21. “As a martial artist, I am constantly in search of the biggest challenges, the biggest tests of my skills,” Folayang said in a release. “As champion, I welcome any and all challengers. Martin] is one of the best in the world and it is an honor to share the One Championship cage with him. This is a bout for the fans, and I can’t wait to perform in front of my hometown crowd in Manila once again.” Nguyen, meanwhile, captured the featherweight crown with a second-round knockout of Marat Gafurov at One “Quest for Greatness” on Aug.

By the Numbers: UFC Fight Night 116

With his first victory since December 2015, Luke Rockhold re-established himself as a serious contender in the Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight division. The former 185-pound titlist put on a grappling and ground-and-pound clinic against David Branch in the UFC Fight Night 116 headliner in Pittsburgh on Saturday night. After a slow start in round one, Rockhold forced Branch to tap to punches on the ground 4:05 into the second stanza. Next, Rockhold is focused on getting back the middleweight belt he lost last year, and he’s willing to crash Georges St. Pierre ’s comeback party to do it. Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC Fight Night 116, with statistics courtesy of Related » Rockhold Targets Eventual Move to 205 Pounds 13: Finishes in UFC/ Strikeforce competition for Rockhold, the most of anyone in the combined history of the two promotions. The Hit List: Undefeated Fighters in the UFC

The learning curve will soon steepen for Darren Till . One of only 33 undefeated fighters on the Ultimate Fighting Championship roster with at least one victory inside the Octagon, the fast-rising 28-year-old Englishman will lock horns with action hero Donald Cerrone in the UFC Fight Night 118 main event on Oct. 21 at Ergo Arena in Gdansk, Poland. Till spent his formative years as a professional mixed martial artist in Brazil, where he put down roots with the Astra Fight Team. He arrived in the UFC with a perfect 12-0 record in May 2015, knocked out Wendell de Oliveira Marques with second-round elbows in his promotional debut, fought Nicolas Dalby to a majority draw and underwent surgery to repair a shoulder injury. Till has since posted back-to-back decision victories over Jessin Ayari and former Resurrection Fighting Alliance champion Bojan Velickovic . Luke Rockhold wins, gets mad, turns his focus on ... Georges St-Pierre?

And, in a way, maybe he was. As Rockhold explained backstage after the fight, he wasn’t calling St-Pierre out by any means. He was warning him off, urging him out of the way, precisely because the former UFC welterweight champ’s scheduled comeback against Bisping at UFC 217 in November is the thing standing in way of Rockhold’s quest to take the title back from Bisping.

Maybe not as much as, say, a Conor (McGregor) or a Ronda (Rousey), but he’s not far behind, so it’s a big fight,” Bisping said on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour .

Mackenzie Dern gets 125-pound opponent for LFA 24

Dern, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and world-champion MMA grappler, made her highly publicized pro-MMA debut in 2016 as a strawweight. She’s 3-0, but in her past two wins – for Legacy FC and then LFA – she failed to make the 116-pound strawweight limit. The 24-year-old Arizona native, who scored a decision victory over Katherine Roy in her most recent bout, today announced her return at LFA 24 but didn’t state an opponent (via Instagram ):

Controversial Judge from Canelo vs. Golovkin Pulled from UFC 216 Duties |

Byrd was blasted for her scoring in the fight that ended in a split draw with judge Don Trella scoring the fight 114-114 and judge Dave Moretti giving Golovkin the win by a score of 115-113. No one seems to agree with the lopsided score provided by Byrd, which then forced Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Bob Bennett to address the issue at the post fight press conference on Saturday.

5 Things You Might Not Know About Takanori Gomi

Takanori Gomi at the height of his power was as good as almost any lightweight in the world. The former Shooto and Pride Fighting Championships titleholder will look to put an end to a career-worst four-fight losing streak at UFC Fight Night 117 on Friday, when he collides with Dong Hyun Kim in a three-round lightweight showcase at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. Gomi has won just four times in eight starts since joining the Ultimate Fighting Championship roster in March 2010. The soon-to-be 39-year-old last fought at UFC Fight Night 111 on June 17, when he submitted to a rear-naked choke from Jon Tuck 72 seconds into the first round. Gomi held the Pride lightweight championship from Dec. 31, 2005 until the organization shuttered its doors on Oct. 4, 2007. As “The Fireball Kid” approaches his battle with Kim, here are five things you might not know about him: 1. He rose to superstardom in his native Japan. Gomi cut his teeth in Shooto before moving on to Pride, where he set records for the longest winning streak (10) and fastest knockout (0:06).

'Shogun' Rua reveals struggle to try to keep UFC-Japan spot after knee injury early in camp
