Moraga, 30, is 4-2 inside the Octagon, with his only defeats coming against reigning champion Demetrious Johnson and top contender John Dodson . The Arizonan last appeared at UFC Fight Night “Jacare vs. Mousasi 2,” where he submitted 125-pound prospect Justin Scoggins with a guillotine choke 47 seconds into the second round. Moraga also owns triumphs over Ulysses Gomez , Chris Cariaso and Dustin Ortiz . After losing two of his first three bouts within the Las Vegas-based promotion, Da Silva is currently 2-0 in 2014, having submitted Scott Jorgensen in March before outpointing Zach Makovsky on Aug.

USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie rankings, Sept. 16: Arlovski cracks the chart

It wasn’t that long ago that Hunt’s career record was below .500 and he was basically considered a novelty act. But his UFC Fight Night 52 knockout of a durable Roy Nelson proved once again that Hunt is no joke, and he may very well be knocking on the door of a title shot very soon.

Five Reasons Why Burpees Should Be Your Favorite Exercise - 12 Minute Athlete

I’m a strength and conditioning coach, more spcecifically a sprint coach, and I use burpees regularly with my well conditioned athletes. They are an effective exercise for broad and general power and anaerobic capacity. However I need to add a word of caution that has not been mentioned. Burpees have the potential to cause both acute and chronic injury, so they are to be used with caution. A person with a weak core needs to strengthen their core before even considering burpees. Not doing so will result in excess posterior tilt of the pelvis, leading to an arched spine and putting what is known as sheer pressure on the vertebrae. In other words, it will fuck up your back. Before including burpees you absolutely MUST strengthen your core. Learn how to hold the hollow position and strengthen that position. Then use that same posture throughout repetitions of burpees.

Nate Diaz is Back, Faces Dos Anjos in Dec.

The UFC's first show in Arizona on December 13 now has a co-main event, as Nate Diaz will compete for the first time since November of 2013 against number three-ranked lightweight contender Rafael Dos Anjos . Tickets for the event at Phoenix's US Airways Center, which is headlined by the heavyweight bout between Junior Dos Santos and Stipe Miocic , go on sale on October 10. Winner of seven of his last eight bouts, Brazil's Dos Anjos is showing the best form of his career at the moment, and while he's primarily known for his ground game, he's shown knockout power in his 2014 finishes of Jason High and former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson . Equally dangerous in all aspects of MMA is Stockton's Diaz, a fan favorite who has left the Octagon with his hand raised in four of his last six bouts. Coming off a Knockout of the Night win over Gray Maynard last November, Diaz' return to the Octagon is sure to be one of the biggest stories of the fall.

The Fighter & The Kid

This podcast has jumped to the top of my UFC/MMA podcast list - but c'mon, once a week?. I really feel like Brendan and Bryan should be able to do at least 2 eps a week, or maybe 2 hours a pop - I mean, what else do these guys have to do during the day? Brendan habitually mispronouncing every major UFC fighter's name on the roster is a nice touch, too. I also want to hear more about Bryan's mad greco skills. I think he should do each episode shirtless.

WSOF Plans to Hold First PPV in 2015; Fighters to Receive 50 Percent of Revenue

Ray Sefo says sharing revenue with fighters will help grow MMA. | Photo: Mike Sloan/ World Series of Fighting plans on entering the pay-per-view business late next year, and with that move, its fighters could be handsomely rewarded. The Las Vegas-based organization on Tuesday revealed plans to hold a pay-per-view sometime in the second half of 2015. All fighters who compete on the pay-per-view broadcast will receive 50 percent of net revenue earned from the event, according to a release. “Until now, one of the main things holding this sport back from becoming even bigger than it is today has been fighter compensation and the inability of the sport’s top athletes to earn on par with top-level professional athletes in other sports,” said WSOF President Ray Sefo . “If fighters can’t earn a fair share of the money at the top, the fighters lose hope or become disenchanted with the sport, which impacts their commitment to training and preparing properly for title fights,” he continued. “That is about to change.

31 2003 NBA No. 2 Overall Pick Darko Milicic Gives up Basketball for Professional Kickboxing

Darko Milicic, the man drafted after Lebron James, before Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade, has officially given up on playing basketball professionally and will now try his hand at kickboxing . According to a report from , the 7-feet, 275 pound center has signed a contract to become a professional kickboxer in his native Serbia. The article goes on to add that Milicic’s first bout will be announced on Wednesday. Milicic has not suited up for an NBA team in almost two years, but is still only 29-years-old. After spending two-plus seasons with the team that drafted him, the Detroit Pistons, Milicic bounced around the league. Since his stint in “The Motor City,” he has played with the Orlando Magic, Memphis Grizzlies, New York Knicks, Minnesota Timberwolves, and finally the Boston Celtics. Widely regarded as a draft “bust,” Milicic wound up averaging only 6.0 points and 4.2 rebounds per game as a pro.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. to NAC: Controversial Sparring Scene in ‘All Access’ was Edited

Floyd Mayweather had some explaining to do. | Photo: Mike Sloan/ Floyd Mayweather Jr. had a very simple message for those who have issues with what they might see on his Showtime “All Access” Series: Everything is edited with entertainment in mind. On Tuesday, Mayweather appeared before the Nevada Athletic Commission to address concerns regarding the second episode of “All Access,” which aired ahead of his Sept. 13 rematch with Marcos Maidana. In that episode, amateur boxer Sharif Rahman absorbs a brutal beating from fellow amateur Donovan Cameron during a sparring session. Hasim Rahman Jr., Sharif’s older brother, then challenges Cameron to get in the ring with him, and they appear to spar for 31 minutes until Cameron could no longer continue. On “All Access,” Mayweather referred to such sessions as the “dog house,” where both fighters keep going until one can’t continue. “Money” adjusted that assessment when speaking to the commission, claiming that the clips were edited and both boxers received “more than three or four breaks.

Wanderlei looking to rouse his fans in his defense as he prepares for court battle

Wanderlei Silva is preparing for a fight. And he's taking the battle to Twitter. His attorney announced, shortly after the NSAC ruled for Silva's lifetime ban from fighting in Nevada (as well as a $70,000 fine), that Silva would be challenging the ruling in district court within 30 days. Josh Gross reported the announcement:

UFC's Mark Hunt and Josh Barnett are apparently ready for a rematch

Following his knockout win over Roy Nelson this past weekend in UFC Fight Night 52’s headliner, Hunt (10-8-1 MMA, 5-2-1 UFC) and former foe Barnett (33-7 MMA, 5-2 UFC) took to social media to discuss the potential bout.

Weidman (12-0 MMA, 8-0 UFC) suffered a hairline fracture in his left hand during a training session. As a result, the organization pushed back the Dec. 6 contest with Belfort (24-10 MMA, 13-6 UFC) to an unofficial date in February.

A Motivated Cerrone Rides into Chicago

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone is reading the headlines and he’s shaking his head. “I said that I spent all my money in one interview and everybody is running with that headline,” says Cerrone. Cerrone will face Brazil’s Adriano Martins at UFC on FOX 10 in Chicago’s United Center on Saturday, January 25th. But it seems like that is secondary to the reaction he’s getting about his “broke” quote. “My Twitter is blowing up with a bunch of haters saying ‘will fight for food,’ and ‘you broke dummy” or whatever. Listen up, people. I just built a house and paid cash. I don’t have a 30-year note. You know what it costs to hire electricians and plumbers and painters and buy all that material? I paid for all that. I own my boat. I own everything I have. I don’t carry debt at all. And I did all that with the money I earned in the UFC.” Coincidentally, during this entire interview over the phone, Cerrone was shopping for gear for his eight-year-old brother, who he was taking to the NFL playoff game between the New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos in the morning. “Sorry Straka, I’m over here shopping.

Barb Honchak-Takayo Hashi Flyweight Title Tilt Headlines Invicta FC 9

Barb Honchak will look to maintain her hold on Invicta gold. | Photo: Dave Mandel/ A flyweight title bout between Barb Honchak and Takayo Hashi will top the Invicta Fighting Championships 9 lineup. The promotion on Tuesday announced the full 10-bout card, which will stream on UFC Fight Pass from The RiverCenter in Davenport, Iowa, on Nov. 1. A strawweight showdown between Jewels champ Mizuki Inoue and unbeaten Karolina Kowalkiewicz will serve as the evening’s co-main event. Honchak, who is 4-0 under the Invicta FC banner, captured the promotion’s vacant 125-pound belt with a five-round verdict over Vanessa Porto at Invicta FC 5. The 35-year-old Missouri native successfully defended the strap by outpointing Leslie Smith this past December. After winning 13 of her first 14 pro bouts, Hashi has been victorious in just two of her last six outings. However, the 36-year-old has stepped up in competition, losing to the likes of Sarah Kaufman , Tara LaRosa and Cat Zingano while posting a victory over “TUF 18” veteran Roxanne Modafferi .

UFC fight bookings roundup – 9/16 – 9/23

Since the UFC has decided to produce 50+ events in 2014, there is a remarkable amount of fighter signings and new match-ups being set up throughout any given week. Many of these new signings are for match-ups that take place on the undercard, or on the Fight Pass portion of a PPV, so we are going to continue with a new weekly (or bi-weekly if needed) series of articles where we take a brief look at each and every bout booked by the promotion in one place.

“Heart,” of course, is an intangible that the android mind simply cannot process. As St-Pierre saw it, Hughes struggled against Penn, and when it was time for his pre-arranged run-in, St-Pierre grabbed the mic and gave the crowd his assessment. “I’m not impressed,” St-Pierre said, “by your per-for-Mance.”

Tuesday’s NAC hearing fell somewhere between fact and fiction

If you watched the Nevada Athletic Commission hearing on Tuesday you know that a press conference brawl does not add up to a slap on the wrist -- as some expected -- but more like a punch to the economical teeth. And also that reality is obviously fiction, and therefore "reality."  At this point, the NAC hearings are the hit show of Fight Pass, the UFC’s digital streaming service for all your fights and drama. We can laugh and cry along with the cast, from the ever-forgiving grandfather figure Bill Brady to the no-nonsense Anthony Marnell III to the recurring cameo role of Floyd Mayweather as Floyd Mayweather, whose lines are always hilarious. Mayweather again appeared before the commission, this time to sort of chat about disturbing footage on Showtime’s "All Access" program, which aired before he fought Marcos Maidana on Sept. 13. If you think Mayweather has fancy footwork in the ring, you should see him in the courtroom. My friends, he is a vaporman . A completely untouchable hologram. Just a nine-figure mirage. Did I mention he knows how to use the Force? (SPOILER ALERT if you genuinely don't know).

Video: Daniel Cormier tells NSAC that prior bad blood likely sparked Jones brawl

“I think him throwing the punch, I think that was an indication of the years of the distaste and dislike that he has for me and I have for him,” Cormier said when asked about the start of the brawl. “So I think that’s why it went so far so fast, because of years of him and I really not being able to really coexist.”

UFC Releases Mike Easton After 4 Consecutive Decision Losses

Mike Easton is out of the Octagon after four straight defeats. | Photo: Dave Mandel/ Bantamweight Mike Easton has been released by Ultimate Fighting Championship . confirmed the news with UFC officials on Tuesday. Easton, an 18-fight veteran, lost four consecutive bouts via decision under the UFC banner. His losses came against Raphael Assuncao , Brad Pickett , T.J. Dillashaw and Yves Jabouin . Prior to his most recent skid, “The Hulk” began his UFC tenure with three straight wins. The Alliance MMA product has not been in action since June, when he competed at UFC 174 . Easton sustained a thumb injury during the bout which the British Columbia Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development required he have evaluated further . Easton, 30, is currently slotted at No. 14 on the UFC’s official bantamweight rankings.

Tweet of the Day: Jon Jones mourns the loss of his Nike deal

Safe to say, Jones looks utterly devastated by  the loss of his Nike shoe deal here. It's never easy to have one's dirty laundry aired out in public, as Jones was forced to admit to the NSAC today that his brawl with Daniel Cormier cost him his Nike sponsorship and another deal reportedly worth over "six figures." The following video captures that air of a fighter facing up to a devastating loss, confronting the fact that the broader MMA public now gets to know his shame.
