Conor McGregor Plans to Finish Poirier, Attend Aldo-Mendes Title Bout at UFC 179

Conor McGregor could be on the fast track to featherweight gold. | Ryan O’Leary/Sherdog.com Although Conor McGregor currently sits outside of the top five ranked featherweights in the UFC C, the Irishman has no desire to methodically climb the ladder to a title shot. As previously reported by Sherdog.com, McGregor already has plans to make short work of Dustin Poirier at UFC 178 and stated that he would be ready to step in on short notice should either Jose Aldo or Chad Mendes suffer an injury before their featherweight title clash at UFC 179 on Oct. 25. McGregor recently reiterated that very point -- along with some new information. “You’re damn right I’m ready,” McGregor said when reminded of his previous statements. “I stay ready. I don’t stop. This is what I love to do.” The UFC must have heard the 26-year-old loud and clear, as McGregor revealed his plans following what he expects will be a stoppage in his favor on Saturday night. “I’m actually flying out to Brazil [for UFC 179],” McGregor said.

UFC releases bantamweight Mike Easton following four consecutive defeats

At 31 years old, Easton looks the part of someone who has severely regressed over the past 2 years, and whether it's staying with TLI, overrating his skills to begin with, or just "getting old early" and moving past his athletic peak, he badly needs to put together some good showings wherever he heads next. For someone whose wrestling was one of his bigger strengths, getting worked by kickboxer Jabouin in the takedown game is almost embarrassing. It'll be interesting to see whether Bellator, WSOF, or Titan FC comes calling, or if he heads back to the local scene in the DC-area.

Researcher shows that black holes do not exist

Black holes have long captured the public imagination and been the subject of popular culture, from Star Trek to Hollywood. They are the ultimate unknown – the blackest and most dense objects in the universe that do not even let light escape. And as if they weren't bizarre enough to begin with, now add this to the mix: they don't exist.

Why Do Tea Partiers Get to Parade Around Armed, While Peaceful Protests Are Met With Tanks?

“You had numerous national guard officials on television saying that it was inappropriate for police to actually be holding their weapons, pointing them at people who were unarmed,” she said. “They said the first thing they teach you in the military is what they call rifle muzzle awareness. Which means that you should have it either pointed down with your finger off the trigger, or, at minimum, at a 45 degree angle. But the idea that the police would be walking around with armed rifles and submachine guns pointed at people is completely inappropriate, and if they had been trained they would not be doing that.”

Fertitta: Nick Diaz in potential code of conduct violation for DUI, but Anderson Silva fight at UFC 183 not in jeopardy

"We don't really get involved on that level other than staying in touch to understand what's happening. We're going to find out more when he has his court date. I don't necessarily think, and this is me personally, the charges would prevent the fight from happening. I've never seen a situation where a commission didn't license someone to fight because of a DUI. Look, clearly it's a potential violation of our code of conduct. It's something we have to sit down and take a look at, but I can't make any decisions or rush to judgment until this thing kind of plays out. That's why the legal system is there. If we start handing down decisions before we know the facts, it's not a good situation."

Osteoporosis Drug Bazedoxifene Stops Growth Of Breast Cancer Cells

Bazedoxifene, an osteoporosis medication which is approved in Europe, stops the growth of breast cancer cells, including those that are resistant to current medications, researchers from the Duke Cancer Institute reported at ENDO 2013 - The Endocrine Society's Annual Meeting in San Francisco, California, June 15th, 2013. The team explained that bazedoxifene not only blocks estrogen so that it cannot fuel breast cancer cell growth, but it also makes sure the estrogen receptor is killed off - it flags the estrogen receptor for destruction. The study was conducted by Suzanne Wardell, Donald McDonnell, Erik Nelson and Christina Chao, they all work at Duke University School of Medicine. Bazedoxifene undermines estrogen receptor and gets rid of it too Donald McDonnell, PhD, chair of Duke's Department of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology, said: "We found bazedoxifene binds to the estrogen receptor and interferes with its activity, but the surprising thing we then found was that it also degrades the receptor; it gets rid of it." In cell cultures and animal studies, the researchers discovered that bazedoxifene: halts the growth in estrogen-dependent cells inhibits the growth of cells that have become resistant to tamoxifen and/or to the aromatase inhibitors, two of the most commonly used types of medications to prevent and treat estrogen-dependent breast cancer.

How I Got Started!

I remember when I started working out back in 1999. It was at a Nautilus Gym in southern Sweden and I had one clear goal to accomplish there: to build muscle so I could compete in Bodybuilding. Yup, I had my mind set on this before I had even picked up or felt a dumbbell. I just KNEW I had what it takes. I wa determined and asked the gym trainer how to do it. He told me to get strong. So I worked on that from day one. Learning tecnhique? Practice many reps? Heck, I rushed into it, I had no time! I wa in a rush! I was hungry to change my former starving-jelly like little body into a lean mean machine.

It’s OK to Like ‘The Big Bang Theory’

This is also a show that decided that in order to get better it needed to beef up its female presence. And it did. It can’t be undersold that a wildly popular show in this day and age recognized the importance for a female perspective, cast two actresses who weren’t your typical network comedy hires—Mayim Bialik as Amy and Melissa Rauch as Bernadette—and instantly saw the show get better. In fact, some of its strongest moments since involved the show’s girls. That slumber party episode, for example, might be among the funniest it’s produced, and the joke dynamic between Sheldon and Amy—she thinks she’s about to get more intimacy from him, but he always denies her at the last second—lands hook, line, and sinker each time.

What to Watch For: Bellator 126

Alexander Shlemenko seeks his 51st career victory. | Photo: Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com A formidable obstacle stands in front of Alexander Shlemenko , as he bids to retain the Bellator MMA middleweight championship for the fourth time. Shlemenko will defend his 185-pound crown against unbeaten HB Ultimate export Brandon Halsey in the Bellator 126 main event on Friday at the Grand Canyon University Arena in Phoenix. The Russian striker has sat atop Bellator’s middleweight division for more than a year, his tenure as a current champion second only to 135-pound boss Eduardo Dantas . One of the more prolific high-level fighters in MMA, Shlemenko has secured 37 of his 50 professional victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission. The 30-year-old last appeared at Bellator 120 in May, when his encounter with Ultimate Fighting Championship hall of famer Tito Ortiz resulted in his being left unconscious by a first-round arm-triangle choke. The loss halted his 13-fight winning streak. Shlemenko owns more wins (11) than any other fighter in Bellator history, and his 13 appearances tie him with Rick Hawn for first on the company’s all-time list.

The project begins Sept. 30 under a five-year grant from the National Institutes of Health's National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Blueberries, from the family of vaccinium, are polypheolic-rich plant sources. Doctor: Judging By His Training, Anderson Silva Will Be 100 Percent Again Soon

. | Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com Sherdog.com recently caught up with Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission medical director Dr. Marcio Tannure, who also works with Rio de Janeiro-based soccer team Clube de Regatas de Flamengo. During a brief interview, Tannure discussed Anderson Silva , Vitor Belfort , Ronaldo Souza and the recent medical suspensions handed down following UFC Fight Night "Bigfoot vs. Arlovski 2" in Brasilia on Sept. 13. Sherdog: How do you share your time between UFC and Flamengo? Tannure: Actually, I´m very fortunate to work with my two great passions: Soccer and MMA. I live according to the UFC and Flamengo calendar. I normally travel with the Flamengo team all over Brazil, and I have to be here for UFC events in Brazil. Sherdog: Regarding UFC Fight Night in Brasilia, everybody got really worried about Igor Araujo following his knockout loss against George Sullivan. He appeared to be unconcious for several minutes. What happened to him? Tannure: We did all the exams right after the event that proved that he didnt have any damage.

We spoke to Luke Rockhold about Bisping, Scott Coker, and Tinder romances

Comes back from about 2012, a sparring session. He just ran his mouth when I actually helped him and switched my stance. It's a story I've told many times you know, when you go out of your way to help somebody and then they go out of their way to throw you under the bus, it's funny. I was on his turf, I held back. I did a lot of things that... I love it. See, he's got this false sense of confidence from some sparring match where I helped him and he's gonna take that into this fight. I respect Bisping, he comes to fight to the best of his abilities, but he's in trouble in this one. I'll put it that way.

43 Wanderlei leaving MMA because 'it's becoming a freakshow'

"The main reason is how MMA has been managed, the disrespect with the athletes. It's becoming a freak show. The promotions turn one fighter against another and don't want to pay anything. If a guy refuses to fight, an executive makes a statement and tries to show himself as a more important person. It's shameful. The guy has never been slapped in the face and tries to be more important. A fop that has never been hit says: 'You are good. That fighter don't want to fight you, he's afraid'. No, nobody is afraid. Everyone that steps in ring deserves respect and to be recognized but that isn't the case. They try to turn our fans against us. People believe in some of what is said: 'This guy is over, he doesn't want to fight that other guy'. They don't want to pay us, just pennies. You ask for more money and they say that they don't have. What do you mean? They have, they don't want to pay. And they say that someone is afraid? I'm upset about it."

UFC 178: Johnson vs. Cariaso - Idiot's Guide and Preview to the Fight Pass and Fox Sports 1 Prelims

Mizugaki is as steady a presence in the division as you'll find. However, if Cruz is in shape, I would expect the usual song and dance. Mizugaki is not especially quick. Granted, he doesn't need to be. He does a great job of maintaining position, and closing the gap against his opponent with punches with a few correct steps and good timing. If you're looking for past fight insight, consider his bout with Miguel Torres. Torres moved a lot, and Takeya nonetheless found ways to score points by landing punches through lateral movement. A slower Cruz could easily get caught by Mizu's punishing hooks. I gotta stick with Cruz because if when he's injured in the middle of his fights, he still sticks, moves, and scores knee taps like nobody's business which is the reason why more importantly than having not fought in 3 years, he hasn't lost in 7.
