Premier Boxing Champions on Fox Sports 1 ‘Fortuna vs. Velasquez’ Results & Play-by-Play

Domonique Dolton vs. Oscar Molina Round 1 They circle each other early, pawing with the jab. Dolton looks very stiff and tense while Molina seems more relaxed. A minute in and no real punches have been thrown. Dolton goes with a few jabs. The two junior middleweights miss simultaneous left hooks. Dolton tags him with a sneaky overhand right. Jab/overhand right by Dolton with 45 seconds left. Very little action to start the fight. 10-9 Dolton. Round 2 Molina misses with a left hook by a foot as Dolton feigns several jabs. Dolton’s darting movement is giving Molina all sorts of issues. Molina backs into the ropes and has his guts raked a few times. Molina loses his mouthpiece after he’s tagged by a check hook. Molina counters a jab with a short overhand right. They come together and Dolton is around his left eye, but it’s unclear as to whether it came via punch or head butt. Nice left hook to the head by Dolton, but he’s countered by a slick combo downstairs and up by Molina. They trade rights just before the bell. Much better action in round two. Close round. 10-9 Dolton. Round 3 Molina cracks Dolton with a sizzling left hook as soon as the round starts.

Rich Franklin: A Champion and Ambassador Retires

Rich Franklin was always the most unlikely of UFC champions. Perhaps that’s what made “Ace” – who retired on Monday at the age of 40 – such a key part of the promotion’s rise at a pivotal time in its history. A former high school teacher with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and master’s degree in education, Franklin emerged on the world MMA scene in 2005 as one-half of a nationally televised main event against Ken Shamrock. The Cincinnati native was nearly six years into his mixed martial arts career (which included three UFC bouts) as he stepped into the Octagon in Las Vegas on April 9, but he had just started fighting full-time as 2005 dawned. He defeated Shamrock in the first round that night, but it was what happened in the fight prior to his that changed his life forever. That night, Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar put on a war for the ages in the Ultimate Fighter season one light heavyweight final, and it was the start of the MMA explosion in the United States. And who better to promote this misunderstood sport than Rich Franklin, the one guy the UFC could turn to when critics called the sport brutal, and its athletes Neanderthals? It’s hard to believe now that in 2005 that was how MMA was perceived, but it was.

UFC Reviewing Jon Jones Guilty Plea

The judge accepted a plea deal the Jones’ team struck with the prosecution, sentencing him to 18 months of supervised probation and 72 speaking appearances with youth groups. As part of the plea deal, Jones was granted a conditional discharge, which means that if he meets all the terms the judge set for him, he will avoid having a felony go on his record, and he has no travel restrictions placed upon his personal work schedule. In other words, he can still fight if he so chooses.
