Long Live Sakuraba: A tribute - Fighters Only

What makes ‘The IQ Wrestler’ an essential addition to the UFC’s pantheon of MMA heroes is not an impressive record – he retired with a 26-17-1 (2NC) slate – and it’s not because of his glittering trophy cabinet – his UFC Japan tournament win was his only major title. It’s because of his fighting spirit. He was Mr Pride, a man who had a willingness to take on anyone and the desire to put on a show for the fans first, even if that meant his chances of getting hurt, often seriously, were that much greater.

Michael McDonald to make Bellator debut this December in England

Once the youngest competitor in the octagon at 20, McDonald will look to rebuild in the Bellator bantamweight division, which is currently dominated by two-time champ Eduardo Dantas. Next month, Dantas defends his belt against Darrion Caldwell in the headliner of Bellator 184.

Challenge Accepted! Volkan Oezdemir Responds To D.C. Naming Him As Next Title Challenger - MMA Imports

Once again reigning champion Daniel Cormier (D.C.) is ready to get back into the octagon and back inside the winning column. Having faced a knockout loss to heated rival Jon Jones at UFC 214, Cormier suffered the end of his title reign, but only for a moment.

Matt Hughes: By The Numbers

He was the prototype, a forerunner to great welterweights who would follow in his footsteps, from Georges St. Pierre and Tyron Woodley to Rory MacDonald , Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit . Matt Hughes retired on Jan. 24, 2013, leaving behind a legacy that was as full as any in mixed martial arts history. A two-time Ultimate Fighting Championship titleholder at 170 pounds, the Hillsboro, Illinois, native finished with a 45-9 record that included an 18-7 mark inside the Octagon. A longtime protégé and confidant of fellow UFC hall of famer Pat Miletich , Hughes made what would be his final appearance at UFC 135 in September 2011, when he was knocked out by Josh Koscheck before 16,344 fans at the Pepsi Center in Denver. Prior to making the transition to MMA, he was a two-time NCAA All-American wrestler at Eastern Illinois University, where he twice finished in the top 10 nationally. In a career that spanned 54 fights and more than 13 years, Hughes amassed plenty of compelling statistical data: 6: UFC champions he defeated.

‘TUF 26’ Recap: Episode 5

Another episode on Season 26 of “The Ultimate Fighter” has come and gone. It was made clear last week that this tournament was no going to play according to the seeding, as No. 14 Nicco Montano pushed Team Gaethje’s record to 3-1 by defeating No. 3 Lauren Murphy . Speaking of Murphy, Episode 5 picks up with the former Invicta Fighting Championships titleholder and the struggle to cope with her upset loss. “I expected myself to get to the finals,” she said, before going on to reveal she had doubts about the fight before walking to the cage. “I really just want to run away and go be with my family. I was really trying to force myself to be positive and fight harder. I just couldn’t make it happen.” In a bad place mentally, Murphy decides to take off the next morning from practice -- a decision that does not sit well with coach Eddie Alvarez . “She lost and you’re not here,” he said. “Then you’re probably not built for this.” Alvarez thanks the team members that have already been eliminated from the tournament but continue to help the others prepare. His team faces long odds, as No.

Conor’s Coach Calling For Diaz vs. McGregor III On St. Patricks Day

“If it was my choice, and I must stress that this is only my choice and that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen, it would be Nate Diaz in March,” Kavanagh continued. “That’s what I would push towards. I have in my head that it would be a Paddy’s Day card in New York, Nate Diaz 3. I think that would be absolutely amazing. That’s what I would wish for. That’s what I’ll be leaning towards with my 0.1 percent influence when I meet with Conor and Audie (Attar) tomorrow. I want Diaz 3, Paddy’s Day in New York.

Tony Ferguson warns if UFC books Conor McGregor-Nate Diaz 3, 'fans will be pissed'

“If they want to put that fight together, that’s great,” Ferguson said. “But you know the fans will be pissed, because they obviously know that Diaz and Conor is going to make a lot of money, but the real righteous thing to do is to make sure the belts become unified. Lauren Murphy Blasts Eddie Alvarez for Comments Made on 'The Ultimate Fighter' |

“For Eddie to say that I must not be built for this because I didn’t go into the gym the morning after I was on the wrong end of a fist fight, that’s just crazy to me,” Murphy said. “Ask Eddie if he went into the gym the morning after Conor McGregor knocked him out. I guarantee you he wasn’t skipping into the gym to help his teammates get ready for their next fights. Eddie went home with his family, he got to get on his little smartphone, order some good food and process what had happened. Whatever he needed to do to process that loss.

UFC confirms Khabib Nurmagomedov was offered fight with Tony Ferguson at UFC 217

“Just to clear things up, a fight was offered to Nurmagomedov on Nov. 4 (at UFC 217), and at that point, we were trying to put cards together toward the end of the year,” UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby told UFC commentator Jon Anik. “I was informed that (Nurmagomedov) could not make that date, and he probably wouldn’t be able to fight until at least December, so that left Tony without a dance partner.”

28’s WMMA Pound-for-Pound Top 10

Jessica Andrade shook up the strawweight rankings, and she is reconfiguring the pound-for-pound list, too. Though the women’s strawweight class is among the sport’s deepest and most talented divisions, Ultimate Fighting Championship titleholder Joanna Jedrzejczyk and former challenger Claudia Gadelha cast a long shadow over the rest of their contemporaries, as they dominated everyone in their path, save for each other. With Gadelha having lost to Jedrzejczyk twice, however, the division seemed in a holding pattern until UFC Fight Night 117 in Saitama, Japan, where Andrade bloodied and battered her fellow Brazilian to win a unanimous decision and earn the biggest win of her career. Following the victory, the former bantamweight debuts in our pound-for-pound midst at No. 4, while “Claudinha” falls from third to fifth. After UFC 215 in Edmonton, Alberta, Valentina Shevchenko understands the professional and promotional pain Gadelha faces with Jedrzejczyk. Shevchenko’s first bout with Amanda Nunes in March 2016 was competitive, with “Bullet” coming on late but losing a unanimous decision; and in their championship rematch, she lost a split decision most felt she deserved.

Video: Cornerman Jumps Over Cage, Saves Fighter Rendered Unconscious By Choke

ABSURDO ! Arbitro não percebe atleta apagado em finalização e final de combate termina em confusão com corners que invadem cage. — #psicoticosporvt (@PsicoticosporVT) September 26, 2017 A mixed martial arts bout in Brazil recently ended in bizarre fashion when a cornerman leapt over the cage to save his fighter as he was being choked unconscious. This past weekend, Silmar Nunes and Caio Robson Silva squared off under the Capanema Fight Combat banner. Nunes, a veteran of 48 professional bouts, eventually found an opening for a guillotine choke and applied the hold from the bottom. Silva appeared to go out, but despite several checks from the referee, Nunes was not told to break the choke. Eventually, Silva’s corner rushed the cage and attacked Nunes to force him to let go of the maneuver. After being separated from his foe by the opposing corner, Nunes quickly checked on Silva. According to a report from , Jorge Gomes was in attendance at the event and was asked to referee the bout moments before the fight. Gomes is a professional fighter with losses to both Nunes and Silva.

Could the NFL Kneeling Conundrum Spill Over into the UFC? |

3) The Media. Let’s face it; would this situation have gotten this far if it wasn’t for the frenzied media pushing it out there? I think not. The NFL commands many more eyeballs and marketshare of the American psyche than does MMA, so there is more incentive for the pundits and talking heads to blather on about it. MMA and the UFC, no matter how big it has gotten, is still a tick compared to the NFL beast, at least in America.
