UFC 192 “Countdown” takes a deeper look at Daniel Cormier vs. Alexander Gustafsson.

Opinion: Wilder Impresses in Tough Test; Breazeale, Not so Much

If he had stuck with football, maybe Deontay Wilder, a 6-foot-7, 228¾-pound physical specimen who at 29 still has the look of a four- or five-star defensive end prospect, would never have blossomed into a Pro Bowler like, say, an Ed “Too Tall” Jones or Mark Gastineau. At this point, any such speculation would be impossible to prove or disprove.

PBC on Fox Sports 1: Javier Fortuna Stops Carlos Velasquez in 10th

Early on in his bout with Carlos Velasquez , it appeared as though defending WBA junior lightweight champion Javier Fortuna was going to have a short night. But the Dominican had to alter his approach throughout before he was able to put an end to the tough Puerto Rican’s evening and having his hand raised inside the Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. Fortuna (29-0-1, 21 KOs) dropped his challenger with a sizzling right to the temple in the second, but Velasquez was able to climb back to his feet and hang around for quite a while. Though Fortuna won virtually every minute of every round, Velasquez was tough enough to give his foe some issues until he had to be rescued by referee Russell Mora in the 10th. Fortuna shattered Velasquez’ nose in the third, causing blood to pour like a faucet from that point forward. Fortuna switched from pressure fighter to slick boxer and back to aggressor in the contest, but when he finally reverted back to his destructive ways late in the eighth, Velasquez had no chance. Related » PBC on FS1 Round-by-Round Scoring Fortuna rocked him late in the eighth and ninth rounds, and with Velasquez (19-2, 12 KOs) gassing out completely, Fortuna unloaded a barrage of punches to the head and body.

Stann'd and Deliver: Jon Jones looms large over UFC 192 this weekend

"You couldn't have drawn up a better narrative for this thing to take place," Stann told FOX Sports about Jones' return. "Whether Gustafsson wins this fight, people have been clamoring to see a rematch there with Jon Jones, and obviously if Daniel Cormier defends his title and wins, it's going to be him versus Jon Jones again. It's going to be ridiculous in terms of the buildup for that fight and the trash talk that would take place."

UFC anti-doping rep Jeff Novitzky tells Josh Samman that NAC got Diaz case wrong

"Any time under this policy, for prohibited association, the fighter would have to be notified first by USADA. They’d have to say 'Hey Josh, this person has been suspended, and you are no longer to to be coached or managed or trained by him.' The spirit of this is to be able to have some authority over a coach or a trainer that is distributing or advising athletes on using performance enhancing drugs. It is not for an athlete that tested positive for using and was still going to be used as a training or sparring partner for another UFC athlete. 'Sparring partner' and 'training partner' was specifically taken out of that language for that reason. It would apply to a non-fighter that was sanctioned for advising or distributing drugs. Difficult logistics, but [going after the coaches] is absolutely the idea. The hardest sanctions are on those that are distributing. In an ideal world, you want to cut off the supply, and that’s the person you punish the hardest and the most. USADA is not a law enforcement agency, but they do have investigators on staff with liaisons in law enforcement."

Kickboxing: Van Roosmalen vs. Sitsongpeenong to Headline Glory 25

Robin van Roosmalen is on a roll in the Glory ring. | Photo: James Law/Glory Kickboxing promoter Glory announced Tuesday that Glory 25 will be anchored by a lightweight championship bout between reigning titleholder Robin van Roosmalen and Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong. The event will be held on Nov. 6 at the Palalper in Monza, Italy. Van Roosmalen (34-6, 19 KOs) has won three consecutive battles under the Glory umbrella, with his most recent triumph coming at Glory 20 in Dubai. The Dutch fighter says he has a plan that will allow him to retain his title against one of Thailand’s best. “I’m going to pressure him,” van Roosmalen said in a statement. “He doesn’t like being put under pressure and pushed backwards. It will be a great fight and I look forward to keeping hold of this belt for a long time.” Sitsongpeenong (99-27-5, 26 KOs), who won the Glory 22 tournament, said that while the champ is a dangerous man, he doesn’t think van Roosmalen will be able to deal with his attacks. “It is very difficult for an orthodox stance fighter to withstand the damage from my powerful left kicks,” Sitsongpeenong said.

UFC Fighter Rankings: Uriah Hall in top 10, but still below Gegard Mousasi

Last weekend's UFC event in Japan featured a major upset in the middleweight division, which understandably shook up the rankings a bit. But this is the UFC rankings panel we're talking about, so it should come as no surprise that it doesn't really make any sense. When Uriah Hall knocked out the former number six-ranked fighter Gegard Mousasi , you figured he'd find his way into that area of the list, right? Well, he did crack the top 10, so that's good.
