All Charges Against Thiago Silva Dropped by Florida Judge in Alleged Domestic Assault Case

Thiago Silva will not be facing any jail time. | Alan Oliveira/ A Florida judge dropped all charges against ex-UFC fighter Thiago Silva stemming from an alleged altercation that occurred with Silva’s estranged wife, Thaysa Kamiji, and mixed martial arts school owner Pablo Popovitch in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., this past February. confirmed the news with a Broward County State Attorney’s office representative following an initial report from TMZ . The representative said that the charges were likely dropped because the alleged victim had become uncooperative and investigators had determined that she had likely moved out of the country. Silva was arrested on Feb. 6 after allegedly threatening to shoot up Popovitch’s jiu-jitsu school and then barricading himself inside his home. After initially being charged with two felony counts of attempted murder, the charges were downgraded to aggravated assault with a firearm and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Silva also faced a charge of resisting arrest without violence.

An Intimate Conversation with UFC Fighter Ronda Rousey

RR: A little bit. I think you naturally get tired of wearing the same thing all the time. It was the guys in the gym who made me be more fashionable! I had lost a bunch of weight and only had a couple of pairs of pants, which I had had since I was 17, and they were always like, “Ronda, why do always wear this stuff?” I was broke, I couldn’t buy anything, but as soon as I made a little bit of money they took me under their Armenian wings. It’s funny that it was the men who really girlied me up instead of the other way around. Once I started getting into it, I was really into it. Now my whole Instagram feed is fashion.

Spartan life preps Ozzy Dugulubgov for MMA Elite - NBC Sports

Brazil and the United States presently produce the world's best mixed martial artists, Azamat “Ozzy” Dugulubgov volunteers. But if we were ranking which nation breeds the mentally toughest fighters, the explosive WSOF lightweight contender points to Russia, specifically the country's most war-torn region, the North Caucases. Understand the bloody history of the mountainous North Caucases – a predominantly Muslim region with a nearly 200-year history of ferociously fighting the Russians who conquered them, and subjected them to mass ethnic cleansing and bombings and chemical weapons attacks a century ago – and you will better understand the spartan conditions that created Ozzy D into one of MMA's most dynamic and promising Russian imports. As a young boy in the North Caucases, Ozzy routinely fought with classmates and in the streets. In the U.S., kids fighting is commonly referred to as “bullying”; but in the warrior-revering Russia where Ozzy came of age, fighting was considered “normal.” During an interview with last year, Ozzy (5-1, 4 finishes) delivered one of MMA's all-time classic quotes while recalling his tough-love childhood: “Our bedtime stories,” he said, “were of warriors.

TUF Talk: Ultimate Fighter coaches Anthony Pettis and Gilbert Melendez

"They are the top in the world," Melendez said.  "That's one thing I was totally excited for and I got a lot of professionalism from most of them. I was happy with the experience as a whole. Not everyone gave 100-percent, but the women that I had on my team that really gave it to us and trusted us, they really let us do our thing and really respected us for it and gave an effort. It was a pleasurable experience."

Bellator 123 staff picks: Three unanimous nods, but dissension in main event

Bellator 123 Headliner Pat Curran Planning Move to Train at Team Takedown Full Time

Pat Curran headlines Bellator 123 against Patricio Freire. | Keith Mills/ Pat Curran already believes he is one of the top featherweights in the world, regardless of promotion. However, Bellator MMA’s reigning featherweight champion is still intent on improving, which is why he spent the duration of his most recent camp at Team Takedown. The Texas-based gym has produced a solid stable of talent, most notably UFC welterweight king Johny Hendricks . Curran, who previously trained at Team Curran with his cousin Jeff in Illinois, found the change to be beneficial. “It’s a learning experience. Every time you train with somebody new or when you go somewhere new, everyone has a different outlook on the way they coach and the way they see things, and I have a very open mind,” Curran told “I take everything in, and I’m learning everything from my striking to my ground and wrestling. I’ve taken a lot away from the coaches here and the training partners, and I couldn’t be happier. They definitely have pushed me as hard as I can go.

Just 13 days after first UFC win, Chas Skelly ready to make octagon history

“After my win over Niinimaki, I went back home, and I had a few drinks with friends,” Skelly said. “Then I got right back into the gym on Monday. (Bellator MMA featherweight champion) Pat Curran had come down to train with me for my training camp, and he was my training partner for the camp. He’s fighting this Friday as well, so I told him if I didn’t take any damage in the fight and I was healthy, I would get right back into the gym and help him, so that’s what I did. I got right back into the gym to help him, then I got the call on Wednesday of last week. I was just like, ‘Well, yeah, I’m still working out. I’m still healthy and training so I might as well take the fight.'”

Joe Lauzon's son conquering cancer already the biggest win in 2014

"But for the first time after Joey was born and I'm holding him and I know I'm late for the gym, he's sleeping, he's doing nothing, he's just being there and I don't want to put him down. My mom kept telling me -- you'll never understand till he's born, you'll never love something so much in your life, and I'm like, 'Yep,' and now I see she's right. She's 100 percent right. I've done a good job of not letting it get in the way, but I'm like chronically five minutes late to the gym."

Changing Course - Match Made

Julie Kedzie is settling into her role as Invicta FC matchmaker. | Photo: Dave Mandel/ Julie Kedzie ’s apartment in Shawnee, Kan., is a work-in-progress -- a home that does not quite yet feel like home because three quarters of the boxes she transported from Albuquerque, N.M., two months ago have yet to be touched. That anti-IKEA look might suggest Invicta Fighting Championships ’ new matchmaker is not planting roots too deep, but truth is Kedzie’s one-track mind is an employer’s dream. The less settled Kedzie is in her domain, the more committed she is to her new gig. Besides, controlled chaos has always kind of been Kedzie’s thing. In fact, it runs in the family. “My mother is a brilliant scientist, but she can’t find her glasses when they’re on top of her head,” Kedzie told “My sister is the same way, [and] she’s got two PhDs. We’re all running around, and there’s trash in our purse and we can’t do this and we can’t do that because there’s this task in front of you and you get it done, but everything around you falls to craziness.

The age, speed, size, and everything else discrepancy was apparent from the very get-go, as Overeem followed up a few of his trademark vicious knees by just kind of gently guiding Goodridge to the ground to deliver a further beating. A series of brutal body shots followed, each sending shockwaves through the canvas with a sickening thud, and then, like a cat who had grown tired of its prey, Alistair mercifully finished off “Big Daddy” (phrasing) with an Americana.

'King Mo' Lawal: 'Everyone is happy with new Bellator boss'

Few Bellator fighters were as critical of and unahppy with former Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney as light heavyweight star Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal. He called Rebney names and said that if he saw him again, he'd lay hands on him , and presumabley not in a loving church way.

Charles Oliveira blames missing weight on viral infection

"I was sick for the past week in Brazil, and I was pretty bad when I got to the United States," Oliveira told after the weigh-ins. "I couldn’t cut weight, and I’m not feeling well to cut weight, so that’s why I missed weight. I had high fever, headache. I think it was a viral infection. But I was the one who asked for this fight, so I couldn’t withdraw."

Henry Cejudo 'happy' with move to bantamweight for his UFC debut

Of course, this isn't a direct quote from Cejudo himself, so it may be best taken with a small grain of salt, at least in terms of Cejudo's happiness. Either way, however, for fans interested in seeing what he can do in MMA, this is great news. Cejudo is a fantastic talent, and should be a good enough one to compete at 135 as well as 125. Certainly some of the best current flyweights had no trouble competing at bantamweight. Maybe once he finds his footing there, he can look at cutting back down a division.

UFC Fight Night Weigh-in Results: Jacare-Mousasi Rematch Given Go-Ahead

Nearing a shot at the Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight crown, Ronaldo Souza must confront a man who knocked him senseless a little less than six years ago. Souza tipped the scales at 185 pounds ahead of his rematch with former Strikeforce , Dream and Cage Warriors Fighting Championship titleholder Gegard Mousasi (186) in the UFC Fight Night “Jacare vs. Mousasi 2” main event on Friday at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, Conn. Heavyweight co-headliners Alistair Overeem (248) and Ben Rothwell (264) were also given the green light at Thursday’s official weigh-in. UFC Fight Night “Jacare vs. Mousasi 2” -- which will air live on Fox Sports 1 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT -- will also feature a heavyweight clash pairing “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 alum Matt Mitrione (255) with Derrick Lewis (264), a lightweight scrap pitting Joe Lauzon (155) against “The Ultimate Fighter 15” winner Michael Chiesa (156), a featherweight duel matching American Top Team ’s Nik Lentz (146) with Charles Oliveira (*150) and a flyweight tilt between MMA Lab - Arizona Combat Sports representative John Moraga (126) and Justin Scoggins (126).

Thiago Silva sees all charges dropped stemming from February arrest

The justice system is a fickle thing. Despite a SWAT team standoff and allegedly threatening his wife with a gun (which led to two charges of aggravated assault with a firearm), Thiago Silva has been cleared of all wrongdoing stemming from his arrest last February. Of course, Silva and his lawyer have contested the charges against him from the beggining, but it doesn't appear that his legal defense was at the heart of the judges ruling to dismiss his case.  According to TMZ Sports , Silva's ex-wife was uncooperative with the prosecution and at this point, is assumed to have left the country entirely.

UFC Fight Night: Jacare vs. Mousasi II staff picks and predictions

Fraser Coffeen : It's so fascinating to me how the script on both of these men has changed since their first fight. Back then, it was the chinny "doesn't like to get hit" Jacare vs. the rising pound for pound fighter Mousasi. Now, Jacare is the more established fighter, and it's Mousasi who is constantly fighting with question marks surrounding him. Those question marks make picking any Mousasi fight tough. While I think Jacare has shown considerably more improvement since that first fight, I still see this as a stylistic match up that favors Mousasi. Jacare has made huge strides in his stand-up game, but Mousasi remains ahead, and though Jacare is the better grappler, Mousasi is no slouch there. I like Mousasi to pick Jacare apart here for the win. Again.  Gegard Mousasi by decision

Alexander Gustafsson open to Anthony Johnson fight: ‘Can’t wait to show you what Battlefield feels like’

. "We are both professional fighters and fighting is what we do for living. I know it is frustrating not getting response when you are challenging someone, therefore, I will not turn you down. I will be fully recovered within a couple of weeks so anytime in January and forward I will be ready to fight you.

Charles Oliveira: 'I felt dominant in my first fight against Nik Lentz'

The matchup certainly carries more significance the second time around. Lentz. The first meeting was at lightweight, and both have since dropped to 145 pounds. Lentz has gone 4-1 at featherweight and sits at No. 13 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA featherweight rankings, while Oliveira is at 4-2 in the division and is currently noted as an honorable mention.

John Lineker meets Ian McCall at UFC Fight Night 56 in Brazil

UFC officials today announced the new contest, which takes place on Nov. 8. While the venue has yet to be officially announced, UFC Fight night 56 is expected to take place at Ginasio Municipal Tancredo Neves in Uberlandia, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

UFC light heavyweight Alexander Gustafsson wants to fight Anthony Johnson in January

All of this comes on the heels of  Gustafsson expressing interest in fighting once more while Jones-Cormier, which is slated for January 3rd at UFC 181, resolved itself. This would confirm mutual interest between the two combatants, to go along with Dana White's own endorsement when talking to the media. It has all the makings of being official except for signed bout agreements, and it's quite clearly the best fight to make in the division right now.

UFC Fight Night: Mousasi vs. Souza - Idiot's Guide and Preview to Matt Mitrione vs. Derrick Lewis

I see Lewis as an unknown quantity. I can count on him to knock someone's block off if they just stand there like Inocente and May, but someone that will move around (Mitrione moves very well for a big guy) and try to put him on his back? You just can't bank of a fighter like that, especially with those odds. And it's not like Lewis has shown to have some underrated chops on the ground. Even Jeremiah Constant was able to flip him end over end before getting punched too many times in the back of the head.

UFC and 'TUF 20' hopeful Felice Herrig posts epic Instagram photo in New York subway

Herrig, who trains in Chicago’s north suburbs, is one of 16 contestants on the upcoming “TUF 20,” which begins Sept. 10 on FOX Sports 1. The show, coached by UFC lightweight champ Anthony Pettis and former Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez, features nothing but women’s strawweights, and the winner of the show will be crowned the first UFC 115-pound champion.

Tweet of the Day: Ian McCall's gross, infected hand

So, what's been going on with Ian McCall ? He's a pretty cool dude in the flyweight division. Always good to get an update. Supposedly, he's been marked down to fight John Lineker sometime in the future... Just not the very near future, apparently. As today, McCall posted a picture of his recently injured hand. It looks like, after breaking it twice and undergoing surgery, he got a bit of an infection. Here's the pic he posted to his Instagram feed.

Tyron Woodley: I’m not open to fighting guys from ATT if there isn't a world title on the line

"I always like to do the fights that make the most sense," Woodley told Inside MMA. "Especially from American Top Team, my goal is to be the No. 1 guy, the world champion. It is a goal for my team to be No. 1. I'm an avid believer of ‘no strap, no scrap,' so if there is not a world title on the line I'm not open to fight guys from ATT."
