Time Travel Simulation Resolves “Grandfather Paradox”

Alternative reasoning Deutsch's model isn’t the only one around, however. In 2009 Seth Lloyd, a theorist at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, proposed an alternative , less radical model of CTCs that resolves the grandfather paradox using quantum teleportation and a technique called post-selection, rather than Deutsch's quantum self-consistency. With Canadian collaborators, Lloyd went on to perform successful laboratory simulations of his model in 2011. "Deutsch's theory has a weird effect of destroying correlations," Lloyd says. "That is, a time traveler who emerges from a Deutschian CTC enters a universe that has nothing to do with the one she exited in the future. By contrast, post-selected CTCs preserve correlations, so that the time traveler returns to the same universe that she remembers in the past."

Brandon Vera to headline Manila ONE FC card in December

At long last, Brandon Vera, the most popular Filipino mixed martial artist, will get a chance to showcase his skill in Manila this coming December as ONE FC returns to the Philippines. In a press conference held at the NBA Café Manila, Vera came alongside MMA legend Rich Franklin to announce the return of the Asian promotion to Manila. After breaking out of the MMA scene in 2006, Vera has struggled to put wins together. In the past two years, Vera has only fought twice, once in 2011 and once in 2012. Both were losses to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Ben Rothwell in the UFC. Holding a record with 12 wins, seven losses, and one no-contest, Vera says he found renewed energy by jumping ship to ONE FC. “I just want to say thank you to all of you for coming out and ONE FC, thank you for the opportunity,” Vera said. “Since day 1, I’ve always dreamed of fighting in Manila. I have not been able to do that in any other organization. I’m blessed that I’ll be able to showcase my talent. I’m humbled by your guys and thankful.” “It took me a while to get here but I’m here.” ONE FC did not announce whom Vera would face in his ONE FC debut but they did say that he will fight in the heavyweight division.

Hi, my name is Randy and I am a 29 year old high school teacher and wrestling coach from Southern California. Unfortunately, I was recently diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiform (GBM) Grade 4. Around mid April, Southern California went through a series of heat waves. During that period, I began to experience headaches on a daily basis. I very rarely have headaches (1 or 2) a year, so I assumed they were just from my allergies. As the days went on, my headaches were getting worse and no over the counter medicine was relieving the pain. One day in the middle of May, I was driving on the freeway and had difficulties staying in my lane and my headaches were becoming unbearable, so I checked into urgent care. The physicians ordered a CTSCAN and found a mass tumor in my right parietal lobe of my brain. They then rushed me to another facility for Neurosurgery and operated on me the following day and my surgeon removed 90-95% of the Tumor. I felt like the worst was behind me and I was in the clear. A few days later my pathology test came back with the unfortunate news that I have GBM Grade 4, a form of cancer that is considered in the medical world to be incurable.

Victoria Osteen's Sermon Seriously Upset A Lot Of Christians

“Now there is a final reason I think that Jesus says, "Love your enemies." It is this: that love has within it a redemptive power. And there is a power there that eventually transforms individuals. Just keep being friendly to that person. Just keep loving them, and they can’t stand it too long. Oh, they react in many ways in the beginning. They react with guilt feelings, and sometimes they’ll hate you a little more at that transition period, but just keep loving them. And by the power of your love they will break down under the load. That’s love, you see. It is redemptive, and this is why Jesus says love. There’s something about love that builds up and is creative. There is something about hate that tears down and is destructive. So love your enemies."

Chris Lytle ‘s $50,000 Submission of the Night bonus at UFC 110 represented his seventh UFC performance bonus in his last eight fights, which made us wonder: Does that make him the #1 bonus-collector on the UFC’s roster? And who else is in the running? So, with the help of the UG and Wikipedia , we compiled a ranking of the UFC’s top performance bonus leaders, based on available information. When possible, we added up the grand totals of the fighters’ pay-bumps, though the amounts of these bonuses weren’t consistently reported before UFC 70 .

Down in Florida, where lions learn to suffer

It’s the same old problem every MMA gym faces. Fighters rep the brand, get the word out, and prove to people that you know your stuff. They also bring in very little money. Rarely do they pay monthly dues, the way normal gym members would. Instead they pay a percentage of their purse – usually around 10 percent or so – every time they fight. But a fighter might only compete three or four times a year, and that’s in a good year. Very few are earning big money in those fights, which makes it almost impossible to keep the lights on – much less turn a profit – from fighters alone.

A Guide to Muscle Recovery | Rich's Blog | USN Life

Increasing Omega 3 to Omega 6 ratio has been suggested to create an anti-inflammatory environment, which is ideal for muscle recovery. Generally we eat sufficient amounts of omega 6 so it could help to increase Omega 3. Taking 3g of Omega 3 daily whilst maintaining an intake of oily fish (herring, mackerel, sardines, tuna steaks, salmon). Consumption of white fish is also acceptable for variety and of course wild organic fish (line caught etc) generally has higher nutrient qualities than farmed. Flaxseeds are also high in Omega 3, snack on these nuts between meals but remember that you can have too much of a good thing. This could be added to a Whey Protein shake in the morning (1‐2 dessertspoons would be sufficient).

Ben Askren explains the root of his desire to fight Johny Hendricks

"It's hard to describe in full effect unless you've been around the wrestling community a long time," Askren said. "He has won so many matches lucky through college. ... He was wrestling my teammate Tyron Woodley in the Big 12 finals, 2005-06, somewhere around there, and [the score] was 1-1 in the third. Tyron's in on a shot, and Johny kept sticking his fingers into Tyron's mouth. So finally Tyron bites him, which he shouldn't have done, but when someone's sticking fingers in your mouth, it's like, c'mon, so he gave up a point because he bit him, land he lost match 2-1. And it's like c'mon, is that really how you're going to lose the Big 12 finals? He was just doing sneaky s-- like that all the time."

Hindsight - UFC Fight Night: Jacare vs. Mousasi 2 & Bellator 123 in retrospect

Disclaimer Time: I went 4-0 on Bellator picks (4-1 if you want to add McCrory's upset win, which didn't make it into most books) but that was a pretty easy card to pick, all things considered. The UFC card took me for 4-6 though. There were some bad losses, some fluky losses, and a few points where I was just so wrong that it can't even be clearly put into perspective. Eventually, this is why I don't gamble. I'm constantly amazed by my ability to call one fight perfectly down the line, and then call another one so perfectly wrong that absolutely all of my expectations are dashed. Still, I like talking odds, picks, and expectations as a framework to a fighter's career. As always, I'll be using  BestFightOdds for the odds on each fight, and taking the mode for each fighter.

Reactions split to Bellator's pro-wrestling approach to competing with the UFC

To say this segment was bizarre is an understatement - it could be the oddest thing we've ever seen on mainstream MMA in the US. There is an obvious parallel here to Bellator's Spike TV stablemates TNA. Because this segment was straight up professional wrestling. The semi-scripted promos from both men, the clearly staged brawl, the reveal of the mysterious masked man (a former ally of Tito's turned against him!) - this was exactly what some people feared would happen when fighters like Tito Ortiz, King Mo, Bobby Lashley , and Rampage Jackson began crossing over between TNA and Bellator. Last night, the carny world of professional wrestling invaded the sport of MMA in a big way.

A thorough guide to the 2014 Freestyle Wrestling World Championships: 86 kg

Iran claims an embarrassing wealth of talent at this weight. In the past few years, Olympic and world medalist Ehsan Lashgari has represented this weight for the Islamic Republic. Meisam Joukar, the current number four ranked wrestler in the world also hails from Iran, and Alireza  Karimimachiani just looked incredible at the Junior World Championships, and could be a serious gold medal threat in Rio. Confusingly, it looks as if none of these three stars will compete this week. The wrestler at the top of Iran's entry list at 86 kg is Mohammadhossein Mohammadian, who, frankly, isn't that good by Iranian National Team standards.

John McCarthy: 'Fighters aren't truly educated in what they're doing to themselves' during weight cuts

"You also have situations where fighters are putting themselves at risk in going into that contest. Because they’re doing everything in their power to cheat. I don’t mean cheat in a bad way, but cheat the system. The athletic commission is bringing forth a doctor, the ringside physician, to give this person a physical. They’ve had this fighter go through all these medicals already, then they’re going to bring in this ringside physician to give them this last physical to have them checked out and make sure they’re healthy for the contest, and the fighter is doing everything in their power to make sure the ringside physician doesn’t find anything. It’s not somebody going to a regular doctor. You go to a regular doctor and you tell them, ‘I hurt here, I have this pain here, I have this coughing,’ or whatever. With a fighter, the doctor says how you doing, [they say] ‘great.’ Do you have anything, ‘nope, I’m good.’ And they start lying about everything because their whole thing is to get past that ringside physician." McCarthy also said that officials within commissions are beginning to learn some startling truths about the link between brain trauma and weight cutting.

Dana White suggests ‘Jacare’ will likely fight again before receiving title shot

"He looked very impressive tonight," White said. "You know, I'm a huge Mousasi fan, and he picked him apart and wore him out. He looked fantastic tonight. And we talk about title shots, there's a title fight that's going to happen first. So it depends on when this thing happens, what goes down, what happens with Chris Weidman. It's tough to say, yeah he's getting a title shot when there's already a title shot in line."
